If the system is overheating, you should hear a noticeable increase in fan speed/noise, followed shortly by a warning/and/or forced shutdown of the system.

If this was really a software issue, I suspect there would be a much larger userbase having the "overheating issues". I suspect, more than likely, that this is more or less faulty hardware or just simply the system crashing and some users assuming the crash was due to overheating.

Think about it. If the game truly caused systems to overheat, we should see a lot more than a small amount of users with issues even if its limited to specific models.

It seems to me that 90% of the time these claims are due to manufacturing defects or misuse by the user.

Really, a "Hard reset"? Are you sure you don't mean a soft reset? Do you know what a "Hard Reset" means?

Hard Reset is representative of "Hardware Reset". Soft Reset is representative of "Software Reset". A Hard Reset is like re-formatting your hard drive. It will erase all 3rd party software from RAM and will return everything to the way you first got it. Only the built in applications like Video, Music, PSN store will appear.

Is that what is happening to you? If it is, that is DEFINITELY not caused by any "software". Just trying to help...

Let me tell you why I think you're wrong friend. My ps3 is relatively new (250GB Slim Model PAL), I've never had an overheating issue. My system sits in the middle of the floor, with nothing else around it to make it hot. I play fifa 11 in 10 hour stints sometimes and my system has NEVER overheated. This all changed when I played LA Noire.

I got 20 mins playing time, then I got the overheating message on screen, the fans became really loud and shortly after the system shut down automatically. I left the ps3 to cool down for about 30 mins and tried playing again, this time I got the same result after only 10-15mins playing time, system shut down again. To be sure it wasn't a fault with my system, I checked to see if it felt hot..it did not, not even slightly. I tried another game.. played for nearly 2 hours..no overheating whatsoever.

This leads me to the conclusion that LA Noire is crashing my system, fooling it into thinking it has been overheated, when infact it hasn't. Kinda blows your theory out of the water me thinks.

P.s. I applied the patch eveyone is talking about and it made no difference.
