To start off, I would like to say that overall I like PlayStation Home for PS3, but I did find quite a few gripes about the overall scheme of things.
The Problems:
The biggest problem I have is the Hard Drive space it uses. When I first downloaded it and saw the "77MB" Download, I was relieved to find out that it only used a small amount of space. Not true, after downloading it asks you to "Dedicate 3 GB of storage to home".
I didn't have a problem with this so much, but to my surprise almost immediately when you start it uses a good chuck of that space. So I strongly wouldn't recommend this to anyone with a 20GB Hard Drive, and would be against it with a 40GB one.
The other problems I have with Home are minor, but still annoying. One of them being because you're slower then a slug moving at top speed.
The next being that things cost real money (Not that big of deal). And that you can't play a arcade game someone else is using.
The Good Stuff:
With the release of Home, Sony gave us a awesome games room. You can play some Echochrome level's for free. As well as my personal favorite where you fly around in a flying saucer (Saucer pop). Other worth while games are... Chess, Ice Breaker (More commonly known as Brick Break), Bowling, and Pool.
These games are pretty easy to figure out, so I won't go into much more detail. For what they are...
I give Bowling a 5-10, I have played better bowling games, but this one is still fun. Overall is a 54-100.
Pool I will give a easy 9-10, It's the best pool game I have played so far. My only problem is that you can't see your opponents pool stick when it's his or her turn. If they fix that a easy 10-10 for a "Pool game", With a overall of 69-100.
Echochrome is pretty fun as well. In Originality I give it a 10-10, because I have never seen anything like this before. However it can get quite annoying, so taking the view of a puzzle gamer I give it a 8-10, But a 31-100 overall. It's not for everyone.
Saucer pop is tied with pool as my favorite. Any arcade gamer will love this game, however I give it a 8-10 for originality and a 7-10 from the arcade gamer point of view, as well as a 78-100 for the overall.
As for Ice Breaker and chess I don't feel the need to review them since they are pretty self explanatory.
Now as for other things to do in home, you can launch games and watch movies with your friends (Not yet but when it's out of beta in a few weeks you should be able to).
All in all, it was a nice gift from Sony. For the time being I am giving it as a sim style game a 6-10 with room for improvement. But for a new experience to help gamers, it deserves a 7-10 for now and when everything is added, a 9-10. My overall score is 63-100 for now, and a 88-100 later.More PlayStation 3 News...
