PS3 Used in Online Sex Crime to Obtain Girl's Nude Pictures

ABC News reports that a Houston man has been arrested after using the PS3 to persuade an 11 year old girl to send him pictures of herself nude.

"People don't realize how the PlayStation is like a regular computer," said Eric Devlin, the Harris County, Texas, prosecutor who has been leading the case.

To quote: Prosecutors in Houston say they have tracked down and arrested a man who allegedly committed an online sex crime - though technically he didn't even have a computer.

All he needed, the prosecutors say, was a game console - a Sony PlayStation 3. They allege that the man, Anthony Scott Oshea of Somerset, Ky., persuaded an 11-year-old girl in Houston to e-mail nude pictures of herself from her PlayStation to his.

Oshea was taken into custody this afternoon by local police near his home. Houston authorities say they will try to bring him to Texas for trial.

"People don't realize how the PlayStation is like a regular computer," said Eric Devlin, the Harris County, Texas, prosecutor who has been leading the case. The suspect, Devlin said, "threw his old computer out because he didn't need it."

HEHE.. go me! Pretty much common sense though, consoles that can go online can also act like PCs online in this respect.

If he deleted the pics off his PS3 I don't think the police would have evidence to charge him unless they have cracked the PS3's HD encryption

i don't think pictures are stored on a encrypted section of the hdd, or are they, but even so if the charge him I think they will ask some sony rep to check the PS3 for evidence, CSI anyone

I agree, if you have seen Watchmen and see what the masked guy (Rorschach) did to the other guy that fed the girl to the dogs then that should be their punishment

+1, actually on second thought make it a sport, release them into the jungle and give everyone a sniper rifle.
