From Sony Network Entertainment VP Eric Lempel on PS3 System Software Update (v.4.50):
Later today, the next system software update for PlayStation 3 (version 4.50) will be available. We’ve added some features and improvements to make downloading system updates and Sony Entertainment Network online store purchases more convenient for all PSN users.
In addition, we’ve made it easier to move games, movies and other content from your PS3 to PlayStation Vita with Wi-Fi data transfer.
With the auto download features for system updates and SEN online store purchases, you can set a two hour time interval for your PS3 to turn on from standby mode and check for updates as well as content to be automatically downloaded.
Any purchases made in the SEN online store before your designated time will automatically start downloading during that interval.
For example, if your Automatic Update time is set for 10AM-12PM, and you purchase a game while you’re away from your PS3 via the SEN online store (at work or school via PC or maybe on your daily commute via iOS or Android) at 9:30AM, the content you purchased will start downloading while you’re away.
This adds convenience and will help you get into your games quicker, so you can start playing when you return home. You can find the new settings on the XMB under [Settings] > [System Settings] > [Automatic Update].

PS3 / PlayStation 3 Firmware 4.50 Features:
You can now set the group of players who can see your trophies under [PSN] > [Account Management] > [Privacy Settings]. To change this setting, select [Show Trophies]:
You can adjust for each game whether to show the trophies you earned. Go to [PSN] > [Trophy Collection] to select a game, press the Triangle button, and then select [Privacy Settings] from the options menu. To hide trophy information for a specific game, remove the checkmark from [Show Trophies for This Game] for that game.
- Anyone (Any player can see your trophies)
- Friends of Friends (Your Friends and their Friends can see your trophies)
- Friends Online (Your Friends can see your trophies)
- No One (No one can see your trophies)
The PS3 system can now perform the following operations when you set [Settings] > [System Settings] > [Automatic Update] to [On], even if you do not subscribe to PlayStation Plus. When this setting is [On], the PS3 system will automatically start each day at the specified time, perform these operations, and then turn off:
- Download content items purchased with other devices
- Download the latest system software
Update: From Sony Europe: We have mistakenly announced in our PS3 system software update 4.50 blog post one feature that is currently unavailable, “Data can be transferred from PS3 to PC Vita using Wi-Fi and ethernet connection.”
- [Closed Captions Settings] has been added under [Settings] > [Video Settings]. Set [Display Closed Captions as Specified by Content] to [Off] to adjust advanced settings for the display method.
- “PlayStationNetwork” has been renamed “PSN”.
This feature will become available when the latest system software update for the PS Vita system, currently under development, becomes available. The system software update timing is yet to be decided but we will announce when it is ready.
It also says that the data can be transferred via ethernet connection which is not supported on the PS Vita system. This is referring to the PS Vita TV system which will become available in Japan later this year and in Asia in January 2014.
We apologize for the confusion and appreciate your understanding.
Finally, from RedDot-3ND7355: As pasted on my pastebin (linked above) so here's the useless information on it....
