January 16, 2007 - If there's one thing IGN has noticed walking the streets of Tokyo of late, it's that the PlayStation 3 is everywhere. Since the start of the new year, we've been able to find Sony's next gen console waiting for purchase at pretty much every retailer we've visited.
It turns out that there's a reason for this. Sony has managed to pretty much double its domestic shipment figure in the first two weeks of January.
The company announced today that as of 1/16, it has crossed the one million shipped mark throughout Japan. This figure includes Japan only, and not the rest of Asia.
With the sudden increase in Japanese shipments, the PS3 has now crossed the two million shipped mark in North America and Japan. This feat comes two weeks following launch, which Sony cites as a record amongst its own systems.
The company didn't give exact figures for the ratio between 60 and 20 gigabyte models. However, it did state that in both territories, the 60 Gig version is selling better.
These things are everywhere!
