PS3 owners: Does the code 80010514 mean anything to you?

The Xbox 360's RROD has been the monkey on Microsoft's back for the past couple of years, but according to some reports, Sony has been dealing with some similar problems with the PS3 as well.

Complaints on Sony's own forums show a small percentage of users being greeted with 80010514 errors, and finding out that their Blu-ray drives are no longer functioning. A quick search via the information superhighway seems to indicate that Sony has not released an official breakdown of the code, but that it veritably indicates an issue with the Blu-ray drive.

To be fair, it has to be mentioned that isolated reports of this error have been around for quite some time -- since the PS3's launch, in fact -- and that we've heard nothing about it coming anywhere near Xbox 360 levels of concern. However, it should be known that at least a couple people on staff know of others who have had issues with their PS3's giving up the ghost.

Since I've taken a liking to my own, and I'm aware of a few of you owning the hardware yourself, I just have to ask: Do you know of anyone personally whose had their PS3 go on the fritz? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well my PS3 died just last week. Updated to 2.20 and it wouldn't boot any discs (Blu-Ray, Games, DVD's). No error message, just sat there trying to load. I've sent it off for Warranty service but still waiting for it to come back.

I got bombed with this error the other week. I called sony and since my 1 year warranty is over they want 150 bucks. Gotta visit the bank this week to put funds on my card.

updated my ps3 to v2.20 and my ext (internal) hdd stopped working. Just didnt go past bootup with no error message. Just changed the drive back to what it came with originally, and worked fine. I just want my big drive so i can download movies onto it (when blu-ray becomes downloadable).
