    PS3 Online Pre-Order Snafu

    Sponsored Links
November 6, 2006 - A leaked online PS3 pre-order form on BestBuy.com has lead to a minor Internet scandal. The other day, several message boards were buzzing with a link that allowed online pre-orders at Best Buy. Those who followed the link could fully purchase a PS3, with an expected shipping date of November 17. Unfortunately, everyone who ordered a PS3 online from Best Buy has had their dreams of a launch day party dashed.

In a letter sent today to customers, Best Buy apologized for the confusion, but asserted it had not intended to allow anyone to pre-order a PS3 online. The online availability of the PS3 lead to fevered pre-orders during the short window in which the link was active. IGN editors pre-ordered seven consoles. All for naught.

Part of the letter sent to customers read:
Thank you for your recent visit to BestBuy.com. Unfortunately, your pre-order for the PlayStation 3 gaming system will be cancelled. Our system was not intended to take pre-orders on the PlayStation 3 gaming system. BestBuy.com will not be taking pre-orders for this item. Your pre-order will be cancelled and you will not be charged.
As compensation, Best Buy has given a $10 coupon to all those who erroneously pre-ordered a PS3. Yeah, that's certain to stem the tide of anger from the PlayStation faithful.

With the North America receiving just 400,000 units at launch, demand for the PS3 is extremely high. It is going to be difficult for anyone anxious for a PS3 to get hold of a system before the holidays.

Though Best Buy is not offering online pre-orders, it is expected to have systems in stores on November 17. Call ahead and prepare to wait in line overnight. Your PS3 will thank you for your sacrifice.

Yep... this definitely sucked, we tried pre-ordering one along with everyone else and got the cancellation notice too.
