Netflix is Streaming its Way to Canada Today on PlayStation 3

Public Relations Specialist Ashley Beaulac at Sony Computer Entertainment Canada has revealed that beginning today Netflix is streaming its way to Canadian PlayStation 3 users.

To quote: For those of you who don't know what Netflix is, it's the leading internet movie subscription service, which basically means that all of us Canadians can now watch an unlimited amount of movies and TV episodes for $7.99 a month.

Now your PlayStation 3 is able to stream from Netflix right to your TV, letting you chose from thousands of movie and TV episodes; watch as much as you want, whenever you want.

To get started simply look for the Netflix icon under the video icon in your XMB (cross media bar).

For all our friends in the US and current Netflix members, you'll have to continue using the instant streaming disc for your PS3 system until the Netflix application icon becomes available for you in October.

For all our French speaking friends, Netflix intends to add French language capability over time.

I'm very, very tempted to update my system for this. I'm hoping there'll be some alternate way to use this that won't take me away from 3.41.

You do need to be signed in as you have to access the PSN to get to the Netflix install.

Unfortunately that means that anyone on 3.41 won't be able to get it, unless someone can find the .pkg file.

ahhh, just tried it. the app is already floating on the net, i installed it with demo manger, but after is installed it asks you to update to 3.42. so, no thanx for me.

Really? Can you tell me where to find it. I'd like to hold onto it just in case there comes a work around for it checking the current firmware.

Can't you request a disc from Netflix or is this strictly a downloadable app? I still use my disc with 3.15 and 3.41 with no issues. I would check with Netflix about a disc. I don't see why you couldn't request one.
