PS3 Square Button My opinion on the PS3 in Europe

    Sponsored Links
As a lot of European gamers may know, SCEE are constantly themselves unpopular time and time again. If it isn't the controversy with the Lik-Sang incident back in October last year when they forced the well-loved company to close down even though [Register or Login to view links] later claimed a lot of execs from SCEE had bought PSP's and games from them then it's all kinds of other PR disasters for the company such as one of their execs claiming that European gamers were more than happy to be paying over the odds and waiting for our machines because we buy into PlayStation as a brand!

To that, I say "Horse Manure!" because I'm not interested in PlayStation as a brand, I'm interested in PlayStation as a games system more than anything!

Personally, to be honest, I'll be getting my PlayStation 3 from Dublin in Ireland as it'll be way cheaper than buying it in the UK because of the difference between the Euro and the British Pound plus I'll be buying my PS3 games on import instead of buying official European games where possible because I'm sick and tired of the way that SCEE treat us European gamers like dirt just because a lot of us dare to buy games on import.

For example, the controversy over modchips for PS2 in the UK in the fact that they're banned over here and yet they've not stopped the videogame importers such as YesAsia and Play-Asia from places selling PS2 games to us Europeans, but Heaven forbid if it's PS3 or PSP even if they are Region-Free machines and games.

SCEE have to learn that they can't have it both ways and yet you never hear of SCEI or SCEA causing hassle towards importers for the most part, it's always SCEE because they want to rip off the gamers, especially those that matter.

[And now here comes the controversial part, kiddies!] To be honest, I wouldn't be too surprised if the PS3 totally flopped over here in Europe! Look at it this way, the only version that will be available here will be the 60GB version and they've said that the 20GB version will only be available if there's demand for it which in my opinion is about as likely as Dubya Bush admitting that he's been honest about something in his life! Not only that, the games will be practically twice as much as the American and Japanese releases, so we get ripped off again when it comes to game prices.

Face facts people, I'm sick and tired of getting ripped off by Sony, period and I've already decided that for the most part games-wise, my money is going to SCEI and SCEA instead of SCEE because they definitely don't deserve my support although for the PSP I'll still be buying a Japanese one rather than pay the rip-off price for a PAL PSP!

At the end of the day, I wouldn't be too surprised if Sony called it a day as far as videogames are concerned and if so, a lot of people will be saying it was SCEE's fault because of the Lik-Sang incident amongst other things and if so, let's just remember one thing, pride always comes before a fall and that's one lesson Sony definitely deserve to learn over here...

what's funny is that pre-orders of the PS3 are breaking records in the UK.

I understand where you're coming from though, but Sony just sees this as business. That's how conglomerates work. Even Microsoft is doing the same thing. They're in it to make money...everything else is superfluous in the end.

I find it deliciously ironic myself that presales of the PS3 are so high here in the UK even though it'll be one of the most expensive places in Europe to buy a PS3.

I know SCEE are only out to make a profit at the end of the day, but it doesn't give them the right to alienate their customers at the same time, especially the hardcore gamers, a lot of whom are now going to either switch to other machines such as the XBox 360 or the Nintendo Wii or if they're still loyal to Sony, are planning to get a NTSC PS3 or PSP where possible as they don't want to give their money to SCEE; hardware-wise if possible...

Sony will still be selling the console at a loss, even in the uk.

I don't mind either way, I've had mine for a month now so i dont care what the uk price is.

You don't mind that people in the UK are going to get ripped off!?!

I just don't know what to say about that particular comment although this following link should make for VERY interesting reading...

Price aside Europe is getting the PS3 launch that the other regions wish they had. Tons of games, online content, probably a nice firmware update that will iron out many of the things plaguing the PS3. Add to that a free copy of Casino Royale to the first 500,000 people to register, and it seems Europe is getting a better launch.

I guess at the end of the day, that's the only thing we're getting that's better than the rest of the world: better firmware and a better selection of launch games plus a free copy of Casino Royale - If you register online...

This is true and i hope the europeans will help Sony to get this lesson. These highnose japanese buiseness guys are not able to see that the europeen customer are not further willing to be a customer last class.
We are paying with hard earned money, so it right to serve Sony the bill.

Too true, toto67, too true... Whether SCEE know what the meaning of Region-Free is, that's another matter...

In any case, I'm not letting any no-mark anonymous slimebag execs from SCEE dictate to me what I can and can't play and import into the country, game or hardware-wise... If I want to import a JP PSP from Hong Kong and buy import games like Gurumin and the Legend of Heroes series which are highly unlikely to come out in this country, I damn well will do so from wherever I see fit!

It's about time us gamers in Europe, especially those in the UK fought back against the Evil Empire that is SCEE and tell them that we won't stand for being treated as Last-Class Citizens instead of First-Class Citizens! Either we get treated equally alongside gamers from the other two important territories [SCEA and SCEI] or we vote with our feet and buy their rival products; in this case the Nintendo DS along with the XBox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.

In Japan, somebody high-up from Enterbrain [the publishers of Famitsu Magazine] recently said that the Wii was going to win the next-gen console war... And it's got to be something when somebody that's high up in the company that publishes what's possibly the most famous videogame magazine in the world doesn't even think that the PS3 has a chance of succeeding in this particular console war.

Yes, the PS3 may be the most powerful machine out there but as has been proven time and time again especially with handheld machines, it's not necessary the most powerful machine that wins the war, it's the one that has the most fun factor or is unique in its own way that wins and I don't think Sony to be honest will ever learn that lesson...

[If any Sony fans have any problems with what I've said, I'm sorry but I'm just being brutally honest at the end of the day...]

I really can't understand why some of you feel you are being ripped off when you are sitting in front of a pc and have possibly a copy of M$ XP or vista which costs from about 60 up to 350 and you don't actually own it and are not allowed to transfer it to another pc, if sony said you are not allowed to sell your console on or swap or lend your games you would have something to complain about.

You do not have to buy a ps3 or ps3 game but if you choose to you will actually own it.

M$ Vista upgrade invalidates xp keys when you upgrade ripoff or what?
