November 3, 2006 - While messing around with our new PlayStation 3 debug systems today, we also ran a few tests on the retail versions of EA Sports titles Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 and http://ps3.ign.com/objects/811/811802.html. Tiger Woods works just fine and boots up right at the menu screen, but Madden didn't work when inserted -- requiring the first firmware update "v1.02" in order to boot up.
Of course, because the PlayStation Network is a disabled feature on debug systems, downloading the update wasn't an option. Luckily, we had the firmware available on a USB hard drive, which we plugged into the system to update right away.
Sony representatives have confirmed that v1.02 is the most recent version of the PS3 hub software. No word yet on which firmware edition will ship out of the box for retail units.
