    as far as i know (i may be wrong) but YDL will not display at that low of a resolution.
    480i = 640x480 (roughly) when ideally you need at least a minimum of 600x800 to run any OS....

    sorry 480i is 720x480 (according to some places i looked) either way i dont think you will have much success getting a display from YDL on it. you MIGHT be able to get that resolution via fedora core, but having not tried it i cant really comment...

    I can confirm what pgi said about ydl about ydl for sure. Your best bet is a product that turns component output into vga input fo your pc, thats if you have a monitor that will support higher than 480. You will also have to buy sony's component out from the ps3. Shop around, you should be able toget both for a total of 73$ (US)

    Yeah before i got my HDTV i used my ps3 on my PC monitor via VGA, using a PS3 component cable (from ebay about 9) and a component to VGA switch box which cost about 40.

    But if your going to do that, i see it as fairly pointless, you may as well just install linux on your pc

    the user interface is already installed all you gotta do is turn it on. follow the instructions:

    Switching to Graphical Mode after Text based Install

    1. At the "localhost login" prompt, enter "root". Press [ENTER]

    2. At the root password (this was set during installation) and press [ENTER]

    3. Via the command line interface which you have just entered, download the Xautoconfig program:
    wget http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/support/solutions/ydl_5.0/Xautoconfig-0.23-2.ydl.2.ppc.rpm [ENTER]

    4. Install this RPM:
    rpm -ivh Xautoconfig-0.23-2.ydl.2.ppc.rpm [ENTER]

    5. Type Xautoconfig and press [ENTER]. It will create the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf and set it up with the parameters necessary to run a graphical system.

    6. Edit the file /etc/inittab. Look for the line that reads:
    id:3:initdefault:

    ... and change it to:

    id:5:initdefault:

    7. Edit the file /etc/kboot.conf and change the line that reads:
    default=ydl

    ... to ...

    default=ydl480i

    8. Reboot your system:
    reboot [ENTER]
    Your system will now start by default into a low resolutions graphical mode.

    nano - text editor

    not sure if yellow dog has nano but that's relatively easy to use

    also about the runlevel biz

    1 = single user mode (e.g for administrive maintainance and stuff)
    2 = ?
    3 = multiuser text only mode
    4 = ?
    5 = GUI mode (multiuser)

    each mode can be jumped to by typing init x (x = runlevel number)
