November 3, 2006 - Years of waiting culminated this morning as the first PS3 games arrived in the San Francisco IGN office. They arrived in individual gold boxes speckled with precious jewels. After removing the lid, which itself cost more than what most IGN editors earn in a year (3K US) we saw the biggest jewels actually lay inside.
There sat Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 and Madden NFL 07. They each came with a certificate of authenticity engraved in platinum - the final touch on an overwhelmingly blinged-out package.
At least that's how we saw it in our dreams.
In reality, they came in a half-soaked UPS sleeve. But each game box benefited from a shiny plastic wrapping. We quickly rounded up our favorite games from the IGN archives to compare their size, weight, construction and buoyancy to that of the new PS3 packaging. We're happy to report that all Blu-Ray boxes are totally bullet proof and impervious to radiation.
With that in mind, head down below to see how PS3 game boxes, ahem, stack up against their brethren.
