November 8, 2006 - Riding in a giant robot ranks up there with flying an X-Wing when it comes to fanboy fantasies -- even more so when the robot in question is sporting 45-foot cannons and enough missiles to destroy half the world. So it's no wonder that the Gundam property has amassed a loyal following of manga, anime and videogame enthusiasts. The latter group of fans will have a new reason to suit up very soon, though, as http://ps3.ign.com/objects/748/748465.html for PS3 readies for deployment in just over a week.
To help celebrate the launch, Namco Bandai and IGN have teamed up to deliver a roster of some the Gundam units available in Crossfire. This includes everything from power sources and armament to weight and height. It's the kind of stuff that begs the attention of any discerning robot fanatic. And it all comes with a new set of screens, as well. So head down, take a load off a dive into more robot statistics than you could possibly want.
Earth Federation RGM-79 GM
The GM (pronounced "Jim") is a mass-produced version of the RX-78 Gundam, introduced just before the end of the war. In order to reduce its cost, the GM omits the Gundam's expensive Luna Titanium armor, Core Block system, and spare beam saber, and substitutes a short-range beam spray gun for the Gundam's beam rifle. Still, it's an effective close-combat mobile suit, and in the final campaigns of the war the GM turns the tide in favor of the Federation Forces.

RGM-79FP GM STRIKER
GM Striker appears during the second half of the One Year War. This is a special MS customized for pilots specializing in close-quarter combat. This MS is a "wearable armor" that covers the entire body of the selected elite pilot's GM and turn it into a far more agile and powerful MS. The armor also boasts a remarkable agility in combat through the use of the enhanced leg thrusters. A GM Striker carries a lethal Twin-Beam Lance that has an equal range of attack as a Beam Javelin. The Twin-Beam Lance has a longer range of attack compared to a regular beam saber. This will be a much needed relief for the elite pilots of the Federation Army who have to cross arms with the elite Zeon pilots who are notorious for their excellent skills in close-quarter melee combat.

RGM-79D GM Type D
Near the end of the One Year War, the Earth Federation at last fields its own mass-produced mobile suit, the RGM-79 GM. This basic model is adapted into numerous variations, among them the RGM-79D, which has been modified for use in cold climates. Aside from its weatherproofing this type is largely unchanged from the standard GM, and when the Cyclops Team attacks a Federation base in the Arctic Circle, it proves to be no match for Zeon's state-of-the-art amphibious mobile suits.
Tech Specs: Head Height: 18.0 meters Base Weight: 44.7 tons Full Weight: 58.7 tons Generator: 1250 kW Thrusters: 60,000 kg Apogee Motors: 5 Armament: 60mm Vulcan Gun x 2, Beam Saber, Machine Gun
RGM-79G GM Command
In the last days of the One Year War, the Earth Federation launches an offensive against Zeon's space territory, whose ultimate goal is the invasion of the Zeon homeland itself. Anticipating a fierce struggle in the last stages of this campaign, the Federation produces an improved version of the standard RGM-79 GM in order to gather data for a next-generation mass production type. The result is the GM Command, equipped with a more powerful generator and redesigned armor. Most of these machines are stationed away from the main battlefield, at out-of-the-way locations like the neutral space colonies of Side 6.
