You may have to try different variations but I get full screen 720p on my 42" LG LCD with the above code.

You have to log out then log back in once you've entered the code in the terminal to work though.

1080i does work with ydl on my tv. u just need to press tab on the kboot part while its loading. choose 1080i. now i just need to work out how to get it full screen

also if u change the settings to make it full screen the resolution is bigger than the screen size. meaning u cannot see the outer areas of the desktop

Thats what i meant earanieg, there is no way to get a FULLSCREEN picture on my tv either. Underscan (borders) or overscan ... but nothing fitting. Seems the ps3videomode messes up or the 1080i tvs screws up. One interesting thing is that someone found a bug in the sources for the 720p mode, i wonder if there'S more which maybe keep us from getting a fullscreen picture.

You just don't understand do you. You are NOT seeing 1080i your TV is downscaling it to your TVs native resolution which is nearer 720p.

Your TV can ACCEPT a 1080i signal which is why it "works" but it does not DISPLAY a 1080i picture.

im happy with 720p, but is there anyway of getting rid of the borders? using ps3videomode 131 works but again its bigger than the actual screen.

eternal, the TV accepts a 1080i signal from the ps3 in game-os too and displays a fullscreen picture (not under or overscanned), so it should do the same with a linux 1080i signal. If the TV can really display 1080i or if it downscales it, does not matter here.

Exactly a TV with a native resolution of 1366x768 can accept a 720p signal and a 1080i signal then scale it to 1366x768.

So why bother using 1080i which is 1920x1080 when it just scales it to 1366x768. 720p and 1080i would look exactly the same. At least the 720 would be progressive scan!
