Speculation: PlayStation 4 Hardware, Security, Release Dates

Over the last two months numerous articles on the PlayStation 4 have surfaced ranging from PS4 Cell Architecture to PS4 Spec Info, and even an article on simply Ignoring PS4 Rumors.

Today, eDepot (linked above) has done some PS4 speculating of their own, covering numerous aspects including PS4 hardware, security, audio, display, and even anticipated release dates.

Those interested can out all of the details linked above, and to quote:

This Web page provides information on the Sony PlayStation 4 console that will probably arrive sometime in 2011 the earliest. It will be updated regularly as more PS4 secrets are uncovered in the public, so visit often for the latest scoop.

Needless to say, only time will tell how accurate any PlayStation 4 details are... but it's still fun to speculate on PS4 while enjoying the PlayStation 3.

This is actually fairly dumb and bad speculation. Sony aren't likely to abandon BluRay so soon and HVD is a joke. The entire article is basically a wishlist of the best parts on the horizon, nothing to do with actual possibilities

Read through the article, some very interesting points raised. I'll probably agree with Tilla, in that with Blu-Ray holding upto 200GB there sould be no need to upgrade a physical optical disc medium. However I do think that much content would be available through the internet and people could download games (provided that the internet gets an upgrade to support the high data transmission by then.

And speculating PS5, come on that a bit too farfetched don't you think??

*Sigh* I'm tired of the fanboy's posting above. I did agree that it would be foolish for Sony to abandon blu-ray but come on people at least state a better reason then. "Oh you, you just wish that they would use HDV".

Anyway now for my point of view....

Now I understand where people might think "Well Sony is using blu-ray now instead of DVD, Why wouldn't they upgrade?" However I do not believe this was the reason the upgraded. Now consider what would have happened if Microsoft used Blu-ray too? Games would without a doubt games like GTA4 would be much much bigger.

But now consider this point, also this is the reason I am against HVD or at least why Sony should be.

Regardless of what is going on right now, the Blu-ray player cost Sony a lot! I believe that the launch price of the PS3 would have been $300 had they gone with DVD instead, And ultimately would have lead them to victory.

Which lead's me to believe this new format disc will cost more then blu-ray to make. Now to honest, I see little to gain from going beyond 50-200GB of storage at this time in gaming. That said, if the player can keep the console cost under $300, I would say go for it. But as I said, Sony made the same mistake as the 3DO, they assumed that people would pay more money for better gaming. They also made 2 other error's. 1 Being that their name would carry them through it, and the 2nd being that people would pay more for their tittles.

Also a 220GB HD is okay I guess, I would have recommended a 500+ provided it keeps the cost below $300.

What do people want? A "Cheap" console with good storage, and "Fun" and "Cheap" Games. Heck you can even say affordable, just understand what people want.

So in regards of HVD, I am apposed unless the console can remain under $300 with it.

As for all the other spec's, I won't comment on them since my knowledge of them is very limited at this point in time.

my opinion, it's totally a load of BS Sony ain't making any profits on PS3 and now thinking of making the ps4? sheesh forget it! they aren't ready for any of that yet!

even if its real or not.. I hope the next-next-gen will have better browser support and easier homebrewing) gaming wise it will always get better and better and better etc...

Well its true I am enjoying the PS3 now and its hard to imagine upgrading when I have only just bought one.

It does blow the mind when you think of future possibilities. I read the other day on hard disc volumes in 1956 - first hard drive by IBM = 356k, then in 1991 first GB was released, in 2006 first 500GB and this year first TB. That is they doubled in two years! In three years PS4 could ship with a 3 or 4 TB disc. I also read a Gartner quote that in 2008 it will be possible to store the entire worlds published music collection on $200 of storage.

Future possibilities are amazing. I guess the game developers are presently hindered by slow progress on the CPU side and slowness in rendering their images. Hopefully CPU will pick up the way storage has.

I hope around that time it does come out, but I would like to see PS3 have a longer lifetime, but I doubt that will happen.
