SAK without partitioning HD
I had been holding off on installing SAK because I didn't wan't to format or partition the internal HD, but the other night I updated my PAL PS3 to 1.6 and was looking around at what was new and first went through the Format HD section to see if I could choose a different partition size, which you can't, I then went back to the install other OS and it said you need to format first and then came up with a message saying couldn't find the Other OS file, so I stuck SAK on a USB drive and successfully installed it. I also needed a wired IP address to access my PS3 via the Web interface. Excellent application CJPC, if you want any Beta testing done let me know ![]() I'm using a PS2 Linux keyboard and it's got stuck a couple of times in SAK although it seems to work fine everywhere else... |

If you're gonna be moving it back and forth one of these is much better: the-gadgeteer.com/review/brando_usb_2_0_to_sata_ide_cable I have several of those (not all have SATA) that I've been using for a few years. They are one of the most useful computer tools/accessories I have ever owned. They come branded differently but they are basically all the same. The main advantage of some newer ones is the small increases in wattage of the power supply. My older ones have trouble driving larger hard drives, such as 200GB+, thought with 2.5" drives it may not be an issue. |

Yeah, the PS2 Linux keyboard has quirks (needs to be unplugged, replugged alot, even under YDL etc)! And, again, unless you create a custom FS driver, you cant see anything from the PS3 HDD, as its encrypted, the linux side ISNT, but its offset by so many GB, you'd need a custom filesystem driver that would insert a virtual mbr, read from the offset, vs starting at the first sector on the HDD. Its possible, but beyond the reach of many alas! |
