How often are we updating this file? I've heard people suggest their drives have failed at numerous version updates thats all.
The Drive FW is contained in every update package (PUP) - it's updated just about every time, you can usually tell when updating, around 80% or so, your BD drive LED will "blink".

Hmm, I'm kinda curious now. (Be warned, I've been lazy about reading news and I don't lurk on forums, little time for that ) Before I read this today, I DID run into my drive not working, in which I immediately panicked. I think this was about 2-3 months ago, just before or around the slim came out I think. It could've been after the 3.0 update as I keep things updated on my unit. Nothing played though. Don't remember what I played before, but I was attempting to play my Venture Bros Bluray. However I did the whole PS3 hidden menu recovery thing, and it started to work again and has worked since (I believe I rebuilt the database).

Don't know if this helps or is just... out there and purely coincidence.

They do have the FW packages though, and are now just seeking a few dead units.
sorry I didn't really know they had copyrighted code in every part of the frimware but I guess it makes sense.

1) If they had a disc in the drive during the update, if so, what was in there.
Nothing in the disc drive

2) Did they use the PSN store prior to (in the same session, as in, between the power on and upgrade) the FW upgrade? Nope

3) Did they play a downloaded game from the PSN store prior to (in the same session, as in, between the power on and upgrade) the upgrade? None

4) What model number of PS3 console they had? TBD - gotta check it out later

Shouldn't they ($ony) be able to fix this with another FW update and reapplying a fixed FW to the drives ?

Well, that's one of the main reason why I hate the next gen system. They, M$FT, $ony, and Nintendo, force you to update the system for no reason (other than to fix their mistake) and without any warranty of any kind. If the update fail, it is the responsibility of the owner, not the company to pay for the company's mistake.

Let me put it another way, how often did you flash your PC BIOS?

No

No, i downloaded official update to the flash

3) Did they play a downloaded game from the PSN store prior to (in the same session, as in, between the power on and upgrade) the upgrade?
I can't answer that, didn't download any games yet

4) What model number of PS3 console they had?
CEHC - 2003A 120GB slim

Finally, please NOTE we are only seeking consoles that have NOT been tampered with... meaning no warranty sticker, no good to us.
Playstation serves 2 weeks only

Any modification or opening will make what we get tainted and useless... we need a system that has failed and has been unopened. Thanks!
No mods made on my ps3, and no softwares downloaded

The most interesting about my bluray drive, i bought 3 new unused games GTA4 Metal gear 4 need for speed pro street, every game has problem.
GTA4 - loads realy slowly the envoirement
Metal gear 4 - about 40 minutes play, it shows icon - disk reading error or insert the disk.
need for speed - lagging for 2 seconds loads of times.

Thank you!

Assuming they could, but then that would also give the class action suit more traction. Also, they are already having problem fixing the game problems that firmware 3.0x broke.

This is also the reason why they should not keep forcing people to update to firmware 3.0x, because until it is fixed, the problem would only escalate. Though it could be their way of making money from the repairs.

Yeah, that is a very messed up way for them to make people pay by buying their products.

Yes, Gauntlet Dark Legacy for PS2

2) Did they use the PSN store prior to (in the same session, as in, between the power on and upgrade) the FW upgrade?
Yes, but I didn't buy anything.

3) Did they play a downloaded game from the PSN store prior to (in the same session, as in, between the power on and upgrade) the upgrade?
Yes, I was showing a friend FF7 that I downloaded in 1080p (it's not a pretty thing).

CECH01

Want pics? It's an original 60g that's never been opened.
