PlayStation 3 Slim Teardown - PS3 Slim Motherboard First Look!
We have waited a while to see the redesigned Slim PS3, and its hardware - to be honest, its not that "slim" compared to previous versions. Thanks to joinmeindeath417 of TechPowerUp (linked above), we get to take a look!
Compared to the later motherboard revisions of the PS3 Motherboard, it is somewhat in line - the "additions" come with a smaller cooler, smaller PSU, and slimmer BD-Rom drive, as well as a slightly redesigned motherboard (not too much however).
But, compared to the CECHA it's a big difference, but compared to the later model motherboards (CECHL and on), it is mostly the same.
The only differences are more integrated components, less power supply "bits" spread about the board, but nevertheless - mostly the same.
Nothing majorly interesting its more or less the same as the original only smaller, I wonder if it will fall victim to overheating problems due to limited airflow.
For some reason I think the airflow will be about the same as the fat. Should be if the vents arent half blocked like the ones in the fat are; looking through the vents on my old ps3 with a flash light i can see that a good bit of inflow is blocked by the ps3 internals.
Like I thought earlier + the press release - I don't think its a universal power supply. Not 100% sure on this, but I'd read the manual for proper power voltages first!
