This is very good news! Because when we can emulate PS2 games... the way to a loader may be a bit closer!

It would be nice if it allowed everyone to use PS3 USBLD Loader to run their PS2 back-ups on the PS3... instead of just those with 4 USB ports.

This is very exciting news! I originally wasn't interested in the Slim PS3 but if this is what they plan on adding into it, I may have spoke too soon.

Obviously, this is only in the event that this actually becomes more of a reality than it is now. I will still be torn on decided to keep my large model over the slim, I really think that losing OtherOS support is taking a big hit. I see enormous potential in it and I don't want to lost it if I decide to upgrade it to the slim model solely for this. I would love to finally be able to play some of my old PS2 games on my PS3 but I have lived without it for this long and besides it gives my actual PS2 a workout once in a great while.

Either way, Huge props to the one who found this! I am highly excited about this. Now if it actually comes out i'll be battling it out with my own mind over what to do next.

Looks like the patent was filed on December 2008... it could explain why there was no updates on backward compatibility for a while.

Ps2 Is Lengend

I have to admit, I never understood why BC was always made such a big deal. I rarely (if ever) go back and play old games once I've moved to the next generation. And if I do, I just use the PS2 I have sitting around to do that (actually I got rid of mine already, but that's because I didn't want to play any old games, and sis wanted the ps2).

I mean I understand the benefit of it and all, just alot of times I hear it hyped like it's one of the most awesome features ever. And THAT is what I don't get, it's nice, but not THAT awesome imo (maybe that's just cause I always keep the old system til I realize I'm not playing any old games at all anymore).

That being said, this is good news because evidently alot of people do want this. And this should prove to help Sony with the evident demand for this feature to be put back in.

And who knows, I might even get around to going back and finally playing the old Ico games and GOW games, without having to go get another ps2 (or bothering getting that one back from my sis). I think where this will really shine is in being able to download ps2 games and it actually work now.

It's about damn time...

Too bad by doing this, all those launch consoles will lose some worth. I don't care about that tho, I have a 40gb :P, this is good news to me

I wouldnt expect Sony to implement it into a FW update until PS2 HW sales have died down a lot.
Its just a good marketing strategy that way. It would be a great reason for PS2 owners to upgrade (i.e. want to play next gen games also) and I think Sony realises this so I may be wrong lol.

I think i wasn't understood... ^^

I meant we all know that Ps2 emulation throught software-only on Ps3 was possible since the Launch Pal ps3s don't have the Emotion Engine or any hardware linked to Ps2 (correct me if I'm wrong).

I understand that it's great that we have a confirmation about this, but Sony could have done it since the beginning I believe.

So ,to me, it is not news that Ps2 emulation on Ps3 throught software-only is possible. If I understand correctly, the "news" here is that Sony confirmed it and might put it in a future update. Well... I thought it was already common knowledge.

Was I the only one waiting to see if Homebrew emulation would be out faster than Sony's?
