Maybe the reason it doesn't boot is because there's a media check in the executable or in the firmware, like the DVD checks in PS2 games.

Should be because of the media checks... now if someone could just try a blue-ray backup... I think we'll be seeing more interesting results...

Can someone confirm if Ps2/PSX burned games work? I cant backup my ps3 hdd (the ps3 doesn't see my usb hdd...even formatted in fat32...) so I can't try myself... It would be quite logical to me that it works. Let's hope bd-r works too!

You've got to understand that blu-ray as a format and hardware is SO new its not even funny.

HDD's have had so much longer to mature that the technology has had a chance to become more cost effective and pretty much mature in general.

DVD writers were several hundred dollars to begin with and blank DVD-R's were as much as $20 each when they first hit the market. 2-3 years after you could get disks for about $2 each and good writers for under $100. CD's and their hardware went the same way.

This is cool news indeed but my PS3 already sits at 1.70 and I'm going to update it to 1.80 tonight. I'll wait for a chip solution that won't make me un able to play the newest releases.

Question

not sure if this belongs here or in a new thread but since this exploit basically involves the running of different self files thought it would go with it. I had an idea when I was looking at the contents of a backup game, which basically have self files as exe, so my idea was to basically copy the backup so you could execute the game self file.

Just an idea, I have no clue if it is remotely possible but without ideas there are no discoverys

The issue with that is that the main executables are EBOOT.BIN's , and are not "raw" self's, its the SELF, then thats re-encrypted, so they need to be decrypted first. No worries, its being worked on
