Why are NTSC games bigger in size then PAL games? - PS3 NEWS

Hi,

THis maybe a noob question but why is it that NTSC games are larger in size than PAL games?

Dont the PAL games have exactly the same content as the NTSC games have?
so you wont find anything extra in an NTSC game

NTSC games are not always bigger than their PAL counterparts. In most cases, I believe, PAL titles are bigger than the NTSC version. This may be due to movies being in the higher PAL resolution (even though it's a slower frame rate) or because many PAL games have multiple languages built into them.

In most cases, yeah. There may be a few here and there that have an extra easter egg in one version or the other, but I don't know of any examples.

Indeed, I don't really understand how you came to the conclusion that NTSC games are larger than PAL games as I am unaware any that are.

PAL games should always be larger than NTSC games for the very reasons stated by JCWohlschlag, PAL being at a larger resolution than NTSC but that’s not the main reason which is the languages.

NTSC almost always (I don't know of any that don't) just have the English language whereas PAL games can ONLY be released if they have at least the main 3 European languages (English, French and German) or it would cause uproar in the gaming circles of the E.U.

Also PAL games are normally (ALWAYS! ^~^) released months after the NTSC version and normally include extras such as new levels or characters, which all adds up to a larger game, often up to 33% larger.

Yea im thinking here...and MGS 3 had bigger "easter egg" in it than the ntsc version and did gt4 also?

Indeed Jackass57, you are correct about the Getaway it was released here in PAL regions first but for a good reason. It's an English game, set in England about English things and made by an English team, unfortunately there aren't that many games like that ^_^; I did say normally, the (ALWAYS ^~^) was just my little rant.

Lot's of things were removed from the NTSC version of the game, not because they were deemed unnecessary but because they weren't suitable for US audiences. The US has sticker guidelines on content of games that don't come from the US and some of it you just wouldn't appreciate unless you were English, so it was stripped to it bare bones.

Which is a same as it was a good game, if a little to short. (As for Getaway: Black Monday, 3 Hours anyone?)
