I just replaced my laser on ver4 ps2, after replacing laser, now my disk drive and laser have no power. Could this be my power/eject ribbon cable..
Please any info would be nice..Thanks
It is a possibility that it is the reset/eject ribbon cable as they are very fragile,do any of the lights on the reset/eject buttons come on when you power up the ps2, when you have your cover off and power up the ps2 and you move around the reset/eject ribbon cable does the lights come on then go off as you move it around a little as this is a sign that the ribbon cable isn`t in very good shape, and also make sure you securely plug in the ribbon cable that attaches to the laser, sometimes you have to unplug it and re-insert it as this can sometimes not connect on the first plug in which has happened to me, and make sure no other plugs or connectors in the area haven`t been unpluged by accident.
As far as power/reset lights, only the reset button lights up, and moving the ribbon around does nothing. I have another ps2 here that i guess i could open up and use the ribbon cable to check. Just wanted to ask what exactly the power reset button control. Thanks
It powers up the drive and is to reset the ps2 or to go into stanby mode as also the eject button should open the tray and also start the drive up and the ps2 fan at the same time, this also applies to the reset button, check the other end of that ribbon cable to make sure it is sercurly into the motherboard, does the tray even eject at all. Also before you put in your new laser which most likely is a 400b laser as v4 ps2 had this kind of laser did you look at the underside of the laser to make sure that the two beads of solder were removed, some sellers will remove these beads of solder before shipping but some don`t and if you did not take them off risk of damage to the ps2 can occur.
But if your new laser has had then removed then it will be okay laser wise. Here is a pic to show were these two solder beads should be removed from.Did this problem arise only after you put your laser in your ps2.
The problem did occur after installation of the laser. But it was a used laser, and the solder beads are not on the laser. I know i didnt tight the ribbon to the laser because i saw it was loose. But after connecting it nothing.I also took it apart and saw the drive cable was loose, but after connecting it still no luck..
When you changed this laser with the used one is it the same laser as what was in your ps2 to begin with, and did you take the whole drive out when you changed the laser or did you just take the dvd-rom cover off and take the right rail off and lift it up and slide out the rail and flip it over to take off the ribbon cable as this is a much quicker way of changing the laser, but if you took the whole drive out to change the laser then some connection must not be working properly as this is kinda bafflimg to why just a laser change out would do this after.
Also is the ribbon or connector for your spindle drive motor securely in,this is what spins your disc over.Sorry about all these stuff but i just trying to cover all angles of to why it is not working since this laser change out.
I thought it was gonna be an easy install, I replace the laser the easy way just removing the cover. I replaced the laser and and turned the unit on. Nothing happened. I took the cover off and noticed the laser ribbon disconnected. So i pushed the eject button and nothing. The blue light does not turn on. opened the console and made sure all connections were good. and still no luck What did i do wrong?I replaced laser with same 400b.
Could i have caused a fuse to blow when the laser disconnected?
