Any good DMS4 Pro installation guides on the net? - PS3 NEWS

I just got my DMS4 Pro chip in today and I wanna go ahead and attempt to install it myself. I found a great guide on the net from a modchip vendor but its just partial and you have to order something from them in order to get the full version. I feel confident to put the chip in myself even though I haven't done one before but if I cant find a great guide then I might just want to have a professional do it for me. Any recommendations on the net for a great installation guide or does anybody living in California do modchip installations?

Are you refering to the diagram on where to solder the wires to and were the modchip sits on the MB,also what version of ps2/pstwo do you have.Or are you looking for a dis-assemble guide for the ps2/pstwo also. :grin:

You can find your version of ps2/pstwo by also checking this PS2 Version Identification List sticky in this forum if you are not sure.

I have a V4 system which I believe is the gap version. I understand how to disassemble the system as I have put in a No solder chip (for Swap Magic) and a Neo Key chip (for PS1) in the past. The pdf installation instructions that modchip.com has is great but its just partial. I ordered my chip from *******.com.

Honestly, the DMS forums and good soldering skills is all you need. A multimeter might help too.

Basic rules:
- have all the tools you need first
- don't bridge any points
- don't make your wires look like spagetti
- don't make your wires too long
- Strip only as much wire as you need
- use a low watt soldering iron, fine tip
- follow the diagram

Always plan ahead of course. Figure out the best position for the chip. Look at installs that others have done. If you don't think you can do what they've done then I would just give up right away. The best way to learn is from others.

I am using the modchip.com V4 chip installation guide. Seems the mounting area they describe in Figure 3 looks reasonable to place the DMS4. It would be great too if I could get the rest of the guide because I didnt buy my modchip from modchip.com. Does anybody have the full guide that is a customer of modchip.com?

The thing that confuses me is to where exactly mount the chip on the board for my V4 with gap BIOS. Also I've heard that there are 17 wires needed to be soldered, does this include the power and ground? There seems to be more than 17 letters on the chip so I'm confused which ones I should solder and which ones to leave alone. At this point I'm leaning to have a pro solder it cause there appears to be a mess of wires soldered in my system already courtesy of the previous owner of this system.

If there's a mess of wires in the system then the first step is to remove the previous install. Clean it good then start over. The key to a successful install is to make it neat and tidy. The best tools to have for cleaning are a solder sucker and a de-soldering braid.

I've never really counted the number of wires ever when installing. Just make sure every point labeled in the diagram is wired to the chip. For all other points just ignore them.

Use the correct wires too. All wires should be 30 AWG except for ground (and maybe power). Ground should be 20AWG. Although if you study installs online you may notice some people just twisting two pieces of 30AWG wire together for ground.

I would look over at the DMS4 fourms, they have alot of people who do installs and post pics of their work. You want to mimic their work, clean and neat installs

dfault you may have burnt a fuse or bridge points together on your install that you shouldn't have. If you've checked all the fuses and no points have been bridge after you've removed the chip then you may have damaged something on the board. That's why you don't see the main screen. Even if the laser was damaged you should still see the main screen.

Of course always check for the obvious also. Make sure you reconnected all the ribbons and connectors to your mainboard.
