probs w/ my Viper GC Extreme

So yesterday my chip arrived. I popped off the cover of my GC and hooked it up w/ no problems. I turned my cube on and the viper screen popped up just fine. when i flashed my bios w/ my pc something went wrong though. after flashing the bios it doesnt even go to a bios/option screen at all. it just runs the normal gamecube boot up screen. I pulled the cover off and the blue led on the chip lights up but thats all. the viper chip website is down and there is no contact info anywhere for a situation like this. I figured since I found out about the chip here that maybe someone could shed some light on this.

thanks!

i thought i had a similar problem when i did mine last month.. i'm not exactly sure what i did to 'fix' it but the impression i was given was there was nothing wrong with the flash or anything.. you may still have the wrong jumper setting set on the USB adapter.. to be safe, try taking the USB adapter off and booting to see how that goes.

well looks like im screwed. over on the ******* (where i got the chip) forum, the forum admin for gamecube modding hasnt even signed in since september. Ive been modding game systems since 97 and ive been soldering small delicate crap like this for years. at this point i have recieved no help from ******* or viper chip for that matter. and the sad thing is im pretty sure the problem is the ribbon cable that connects the programmer to the chip. it may have bent too much or something because my pc sees the programmer but cant communicate w/ the chip. I think i might just need a new ribbon cable, but i have no idea where to source a replacement. any ideas?

Youve probably already tried this, but I had the same problem. My black wire wasnt connected very well, I had to turn up the heat on my iron to get the solder to stick. Also you may want to try to flash the chip with a dvd-r.

I have installed my Viper GC extreme and the modded case for full DVD-R's. When I boot up I see the Black Viper GC screen and shows I have the 1.6 BIOS. When I select the direct boot option it then goes to the regular gamecube bootup screeb, with the GC logo and what not and then tells me to insert a GC disc (after going to "game play" or whatever it says). I have Backed up Legend of Zelda 4 swords (using the PSO ethernet backup method with the ripper server program) I then changed the .GCM file to an ISO and burned to Ritek and 1 other type of media at 4x and 12x using NERO. Also when I flashed my ViperGC chip it seemed to flash in an instant (very fast) is that normal? Also when clicking the verify button it took forever and I eventually cancelled it, as it took to long. Any ideas on this would be great!

Thanks in advance!

mR.

OK... Though I did an ass job of wiring it when I had the same symptoms you did. The bios update when in no prob but got nothing when I restarted. After a million dip-switch settings and restarts, I held down then 'A' button (also play with the X or Y) and I got the Cobra menu.

Now if I can figure out how to rip with the bastard...

Thank you, drive through.
