Is Windows 7 Gaming Performance Over Vista Worth Trying?

    Sponsored Links
How is Windows 7 PC gaming better than Windows Vista gaming?

The Windows 7 64 bit edition seems to handle the 64 bit technology better than both Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista x64.

It seems to do this so well that even the 32 bit programs have extra room to breathe because the system resources and other background programs are able to run in an efficient 64 bit environment.

This is ironic, because many people were under the impression that Windows 7 gaming would not be as good because Windows 7 64 bit would need to use a 32 bit emulator to run 32 bit programs.

That was the case with Windows Vista gaming when you were running Windows Vista x64, but Windows 7 x64 seems to have overcome this problem.

One of other things that people may be worry about when it comes to Windows 7 gaming is compatibility. They want to be assured that they will actually be able to play the game. The good thing about this is that many of the games were designed with Windows 7 gaming compatibility in mind.

Windows 7 is built from Windows Vista so you should not have to worry about Windows 7 gaming compatibility. Windows Vista is compatible with all of the latest games beyond Windows XP.

Finally, Windows 7 was built to be compatible with older software and hardware while maintaining its compatibility with the new. That means greater gaming compatibility compared to both Windows Vista x64 and Windows XP x64 combined.

I think I remember reading a Toms article about how Windows 7 gaming was marginally better than Vista. Toms isn't what it used to be, but it showed that Windows 7 is decent for gaming. I'd be running Windows 7 right now but some programs I use for working from home don't work in compatibility mode.

Namely Infinity by Amtelco and the DPH-50U Dlink skype adapter. I'd dual boot but it's too much to deal with right now. I like to work and play at the same time :-) But if you haven't tried Windows 7, it's definitely worth your time to check it out.

I'm running Windows 7 right now and personally i'd say its way above what vista was when it comes to gaming, the 64 bit version of Windows 7 also seems to run smoother than its 32 bit counterpart.

As for compatibility I haven't run into any issues everything runs perfectly, I will admit Windows 7 is still a bit heavy on resources when compared to XP but you can also cut down the crap that starts up through msconfig, atm I'm using 534mb of memory out of 4gb.

I run windows 7 64 bit also and it works very well , no compatibility issues yet and for gaming..it handles the games very nicely as i am playing wolfenstein (PC) at this time and gameplay is awesome.

And windows 7 is lighter on the resources than vista forsure.

Windows 7 leaves very tiny foot prints comapared to Vista.. Its just like an XP.. So it won't take that much of your RAM

I'm running cod with 2 gb ram only smoothly.

Does anyone have an idea of how Windows 7 will run on a laptop with only 1gb of RAM? My laptop is having a problem loading it's original Vista os and I was thinking about installing Windows 7 onto it. Any ideas?

Well, I can confirm that Win7 is indeed faster than Vista, but It's also my first 64bit OS ever.

I haven't tried to play any games yet, but I have a ATI Radeon X1950XTX and they don't support anything older than a 2100HD (I think) on Win7. That means you need to buy a new gfx card if you want working drivers.
