Following up on yesterday's rumors
, Microsoft officially unveiled their XBox One next-generation console as part of http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hub/reveal today.
Below are all the XBox One reveal details, (via http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/05/xbox-one-analysis/ among various others with some XBox One Internal / Disassembly Teardown Pictures
) as follows:
XBox One will enhance Skype and TV features with a Skype component, but will also also include specialized TV functionality with the guide being dubbed “Intelligent TV” and allow users to switch between shows and channels using voice recognition alongside swapping from playing games to TV. The XBox One will also power on when users say “XBox On” revealing the contents of the dashboard as well.
A Microsoft Support https://twitter.com/XboxSupport3/status/336937800702238722 states the following: "No fee, correct - and they just got that information wrong. As soon as we saw, we contacted them to correct it. ^EM"
This confirms that although there are no charges for playing used games on the XBox One, currently it is unknown how used titles will run on the console. It is being reported that users will be able to pay a fee to install the game to their HDD from used discs though.
XBox One titles can be installed to users HDD's and once performed you will not need the original disc in the console in order to play the video game. It is currently being speculated that this is accomplished through pairing the game disc with a user's XBOx One console and XBox Live account.
Microsoft also confirmed that XBox One won't be able to play XBox 360 games due to differing architectures, however, it is currently being speculated that it may be possible through a pay service which will allow backwards compatibility.
Current XBox One Specs:
- 8GB of RAM
- 8-core CPU
- 500GB HDD
- Blu-ray drive
- USB 3.0
- Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi

Beyond XBox One disc lock, there is also a HDD lock which means there will be no more upgrading beyond the 500GB hard drive included nor user servicable parts. It is presumed the similar to Microsoft's original XBox, the XBox One's HDD is locked to the system internally (non-removable) similar to TiVo set-top boxes taking over in your living room.
Users requiring more storage space will be able to obtain it using cloud services (for an additional fee) or via an external HDD using the USB 3.0 streaming capability.
Microsoft also revealed that the XBox One will officially arrive “later this year,” confirming that more details will be available at E3 2013 in Los Angeles next month.
