I remember comments like this (WinXP versus Win7) back when MS jumped from DOS/Win3.1 to Win95.

Since I have used Windows since version 3.0, I can say that Windows 7 is the least suckiest out of all of the Microsoft OSes.

Agreed. Windows 7 has both the stability and class that all others lacked combined. It may use a touch more resources, but this is before you tweak the services, ie Windows Search, Superfetch. So many say Windows 7 is just for newbs or something, but there's many of us experienced users that find it better. And SSD is pretty awesome. I have 2 128gb SSD's running now, 1 for the OS and 1 for games and it's just so sweet not having to wait for stuff to load. Even if you don't game, the difference is very distinctive.

Not to mention even forensic departments can't recover deleted data from them if you're the more security conscious.

But the point is saying Windows 7 is worse than XP because it uses more resources is nonsense. It uses more resources because it's a much more complicated OS with vastly improved support. Windows 7 is evolutionary more than revolutionary obviously hardware designed for XP is going to run it poorly and hardware designed for windows 7 is going to run XP faster, it's a 10 year old OS, same as it'll run win95 at lightning speeds.

That doesn't change the fact that right now Windows 7 is a much better supported OS with more features.

Though back on topic and from what I've seen from Windows 8 I wouldn't be suprised if the name changed before release as it looks more like it's designed to work in tandem with Win7 on tablets rather than replacing it on desktops. I might try get my hands on the build and give it a shot first though, it really depends on how invasive the touchscreen optimisations are on a desktop optimised version
Perhaps I am just stubborn and too fond of my XP system. I dunno, I just generally dislike how Win7 is setup, to me it's very much like vista, and for my needs I have never found anything, aside from the UI appearance, that I would want that XP doesn't give me. I personally prefer a simpler OS, and while I may have a old PC and an old OS, I bet my comp is just as fast as a higher end Win7 machine (my comp was originally designed for Vista --resource hog as well-- but I quickly got rid of that and installed XP with dual boot).

And you now have peaked my curiosity about an SSD drive, I may consider getting a lower GB one just to run my OS on, I will do more research. From a quick search it does seem XP can run an SSD with a few tweaks.

Well the old cliche - each to their own. Yeah if you're not driven by the looks or the outer layer of 7, and are not one for change, then I'm not surprised you want to stick. As for 'simpler OS', true, 7 does have a lot more option paths and can be a bit of a forest. For me, the looks and feature set / options just make it my favourite.

If you're able to get SSD functionality on XP, then yeah a small one would be good. No more defrag. Almost instant load of programs. I will say though SSD performance on XP might just be a fraction degraded with the older XP chipset drivers, but might not either.

Yep, we'll basically post anything that interests the male 18-34 (which really seems to be 14-40) demographic, with our primary focus on PS3 while including articles like this in the mix. Personally I am bored to death of "PSN down" and "PSN compromised" articles so I try to keep them to a minimum... most likely next week will come a slew more when it goes back online with a new PS3 Firmware update.

A curious part is "offtopic" articles like this generate 3+ pages of replies while actual PS3 homebrew articles often get only a handful... which makes me wonder if many here like myself enjoy reading about the updates but are too busy/can't be assed to try each out to comment on.

Bottom line is, Win7 is developed around people who don't know how to use a computer, and it shows.
For people who don't know HOW to use a computer ? are you serious ?? Windows XP is OLD and isn't the king of OS'es these days, just because you use XP and think its still better than W7 or Vista (god knows that Win7 is better than Vista and XP is better than Vista in 2 ways) doesn't mean that what you know about XP is better than Win7... face it, Windows 7 was the best thing that happened to the OS world and thats a fact... so Windows 8 will and is going to be even better than Windows 7 (BUT, lets hope that MS will include a way for us Retro users to have the original look and feel of Win7 without that useless stuff that will be in Win8.

And i approve of this comment.. Win 7 > Win 8 (for now its under Win7 until i test the RC / RTM) > Vista > XP > anything before that.

Here we go again, This has become the "This OS is better than That OS". I dual Boot both Windows XP and Windows 7. I do like the looks of 7 and have gotten used to all its nice little features. Windows XP is expected to still be supported until 2014, which is a pretty damn long time. It survived this long which definately states that it is on hell of a OS, but i believe change is good, and that Microsoft brought the good of XP and Vista (looks) and combined it into Windows 7. Sure it may not be all the features of XP, but the majority of them. I still use both though.

How I feel so sorry for you! and you think xp is more powerful then windows 7- you are my fail of the year (Congrats!)

yes windows 7 is easy to Use! I wouldn't want it to be hard to use would I? windows 7 Is practically the same as windows XP anyway- just looks more sexier and has amazing flexibility in comparison. People like you should stick to your match sticks and domino's !
