July 26, 2007 - You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You can also lead a nerd to DDR, but chances are you won't need to make them do anything. Instead, just watch with glee as they dance their ass off; priceless…

It's an age-old creed we gaming nerds follow, but may never understand. How in the bloody hell can a demographic of our society sit on their butts for 99% of their lives, but get up and dance their hearts out for the other 1% of the time? Nobody knows, but where there's smoke there's fire, and where there's DDR there'll most certainly be a swarm of beat-crazed dorks; it's good to see nothing has changed over the years.

In this particular case, on this particular night, and inside this particular San Diego Comic-Con, the nerd brigade is in full force, and the hottest party on the block is just that: DDR Hottest Party on Wii. Crowds aren't an odd thing in ComicCon - half the show is one big traffic jam because a smelly moron is oogling Princess Leia fan art - but even after heading to the show year after year we're still amazed at the crowd that's currently forming around Konami's latest dance game for Wii.

http://wii.ign.com/objects/882/882328.html combines GNC-compatible dance mats with the classic Wii-mote and nunchuk motion control for an all-new dance experience. It may be 99% the same classic DDR and only 1% "we want money" Wii integration, but that added control method managed to spark interest in a big way today. And if you think it's just the DDR craze in full effect, think again, as the 360 version was home to barely a quarter the amount of patrons while only feet away from the Wii kiosk.

Does this mean DDR Hottest Party for Wii could be the next must-have title in the world of dancing nerds? It's too early to tell, but one thing's for certain: This doesn't bode well for ComicCon's B.O. level over the next few days…
