July 27, 2007 - With Comic-Con ever-growing into a gaming show we - along with many other press outlets - stepped onto the showroom floor expecting gaming goodness by the boatloads, and while we got just that, most of it consists of the same E3 builds we saw just two weeks ago. True, Comic-Con is becoming the unofficial "E3 after-party," but at least that means we've got even more time with all the hottest games of this year, right?
Sweet GameScoop, Sony brought a lot of stuff to Comic-Con -- and we're not even talking about the twenty games below. There are Folklore/Lair bags, giant advertisements, autograph signings and even a SingStar competition.
Unfortunately for you, Comic-Con is a crowded, smelly, loud, smelly, somewhat expensive, smelly little event, and it isn't exactly cost-effective for everyone to fly out to San Diego just to play a few rounds of Heavenly Sword, Super Puzzle Fighter, or Zack & Wiki. For that reason we've whipped up the "Booth Breakdown," our own little virtual tour of each of the Comic-Con booths. You get the experience of Comic-Con without the nauseating stench, and we have a good reason to stalk the hot cosplay chicks for the 20th time; it's win/win. Enjoy.
Still, the bread and butter of the booth is the sampling of games:
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (PSP)
PaRappa the Rapper (PSP)
Buzz! The Mega Quiz (PS2)
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PS2)
Hot Shots Tennis (PS2)
Jeanne d'Arc (PSP)
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)
The Eye of Judgment (PS3)
SingStar Pop (PS3)
Heavenly Sword (PS3)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
Super Rub-a-Dub (PS3)
Calling All Cars (PS3)
Super Stardust HD (PS3)
Blast Factor (PS3)God of War II (PS2)
Here's a real conversation that we overheard as two guys and a girl turned down Sony row and the guys lit up with excitement.
Girl: God, should I just leave you two here? Guy 1: Honey, look. It's Heavenly Sword.
The girl looked, the icy expression on her face was turned to awe, and the trio moved into the throng of onlookers for an up-close experience.
If you haven't noticed, Sony's been taking it on the chin the last few months from just about everyone in the gaming industry. That said, it has been refreshing to see their booth constantly overrun with slack-jawed fans dumbfounded over graphic powerhouses such as Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and Ratchet. These people stand there, play and then stick around to watch some more.
