Premium Hulu Plus Service to Launch on PC, iPhone, iPad and PS3

Today Hulu announced the launch of their Premium Subscription Service dubbed Hulu Plus, which is slated to come to PCs, Apple's iPhone and iPad, some Samsung Blu-ray players and Sony's PS3 entertainment system.

Through an ad-supported premium subscription, Hulu Plus service will cost $9.99 per month and includes HD access to full season runs of shows from Fox, ABC, and NBC.

The service is currently only available to select Hulu members who have been invited - you can request an invite http://www.hulu.com/plus.

To quote: "Even if you don't have an invite, you'll still be able to download a Hulu Plus application on the iPad, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

The application features a limited number of episodes, but you'll be able to get a feel what the service will be like. Hulu says that the service will launch broadly in the coming months.

Content will be delivered at a resolution of 720p (HD) when available, and can be downgraded in low-bandwidth scenarios."

Not sure if it's legit, but some sites (such as http://technologizer.com/2010/06/29/playstation-plus-required-for-hulu-plus/) are reporting that PS3 users will need a PlayStation Plus subscription in order to use Hulu.

Probably makes sense that you would need a psn+ sub for something like this. It seems now that its released all the good new content that will come out will be for those with a sub, trying to make everyone with out one feeling "left out" and conforming to be a part of the community

... Kinda like the optional firmware updates

Although i don't understand why a premium service would still contain ads? Surely that is something which would be disabled because the money generated from the paid users generates the revenue required.

Correct... from what I've read it's supposed to hit the above platforms in 2010 and the XBox 360 in 2011.

Going back to the PS3, I haven't tried it but I wonder if this browser spoof method still works hehe:

"...ad-supported premium subscription, Hulu Plus service will cost $9.99 per month..."

what the hell? so hulu gets money from companies to put their ads in the video steams that people watch. and hulu gets money from the consumers by making them pay to watch the commercials. it looks like hulu is the only one to get anything out of this deal.

i know the supposed reason for the charge to consumers is for hd content and rights paid for permission to show movies and videos. however, what i access on hulu now is already ad supported, so why would i want to pay to see the same ads?

i'm sure that if hulu took the ads out of the paid premium plan, they would get more users. personally i would never use any online service for which i have to pay (except for service to the internet from my isp).

Too much money for having ads. I'll pass.
