PlayStation Eye More Precise Than Microsoft's Project Natal?

No doubt the major talk of E3 2009 was all about the motion-sensing technologies demoed by Sony and Microsoft at their press conferences.

Microsoft's Project Natal's major selling point is full-body recognition and the promise of a controller-less game experience, while Sony's PlayStation Eye-powered motion tech aims to turn a single controller into any virtual item imaginable (i.e. swords, tennis racquets, whips, whiskey bottle, etc.).

To quote: Sony's director of marketing John Holler told http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23924 that the PlayStation Eye is "more accurate and more precise" than Microsoft's motion-sensing tech, and, even though Project Natal's full-body scanning capabilities is "impressive," it also, allegedly, suffers from "depth issues on the Z-axis."

This assessment is obviously impossible to confirm until some impartial testing can be done, so we'll just have to take Holler's comments with a PS3-emblazoned grain of salt for now.

What's perhaps more interesting about this whole ridiculously premature debate about technologies that are still years away from landing in living rooms is that Project Natal certainly does seem designed to out-casual the casual gaming genre Nintendo ushered in with the Wii, while Sony's approach looks to be more "gamer-oriented," as one analyst told Gamasutra earlier this week.

That settles it... These things have become self aware and they will launch world war 3 and will take human slaves and force them to play until they drop dead from lack of sleep.

Then the Atari Jaguar CD will work with the penguin army to unleash a terrible storm of "we are so stupid" which will kill the Evil-Robot-Nazi-Zombies-That are also Vampires, And chuck Norris will blow up the world.

It's all so Dramatic.... I don't know what this has to do with the topic but it's my view point.

Anyway I knew the PS Eye was better, So I will enjoy it more then Natal XD.

Look at that another stupid story hits PS3News, its blatantly obvious the PS3 Eye will be more precise then Natal since the eye uses a stick type controller wheras Natal uses no controller and works by software alone.

The main thing to keep in mind right now is that Natal is for all intents and purposes smoke and mirrors, sure, on that pretty video with the pretty people playing it looked amazing, but that was a green screen showing what they intend the product to be, and from that to reality there is a very big step.

From the conference I saw the ball kicking demo that was made to look stupid by the girl jumping frantically and the paint throwing that showed how imprecise the camera is at the moment.

Then came the guys that tried the tech behind closed doors which means nothing to me because adapting Natal to a specific game is quite different from a brand new game using the tech completely.

Right now from what I saw at the conferences Sony's motion controller is more precise and can be implemented in a greater variety of games.

I really think too, that the Natal is not asa precisely as PSEye, because the PSEye has an orientation point, that gives feedback, but Natal just gets Feedback from Software (skelett-Tracking, which is interpreted through face tracking...). I doubt that it will be released in the near future and I rather think, that it is in an early beta state and that it were manual modified for the presentation.

i think the best way to compare these two things is to wait when they are out... then we can say which is better!

I think PSEye is really better, if you compare the games that are already out there... its a brilliant piece of technology

Motion control

Natal seems to be an over ambitious project and I can understand since of late, it has began to show that the PS3 is a much more powerful console. Certainly MicroSoft is under pressure to restore faith in its console.

Talk of the future, we must not forget that 3D interaction using those glasses will also be thrown into the mix and may be by then the wii balance board will be modified into a game trademill by the two wii copy-cats
