It doesn't seem possible that "English language milestone" and the word "noob" could every be uttered in the same sentence, let along in direct reference to one another. But if current trends continue, "noob" might just become the one-millionth word in the English language.
Tech Radar http://www.techradar.com/news/internet/noob-could-be-the-millionth-english-word-597088 that the Global Language Monitor, which claims a word is "new" once it has been used 25,000 times by media outlets and other public sources including social networks, says the momentous word will arrive on June 10, 2009 at 10:22 AM.
Apparently, some of the other words vying for the coveted position are "defollow" (I guess no one has time for "stop following" these days), "greenwashing" and "chiconomics". There's a countdown clock over at the Global Language Monitor's http://www.languagemonitor.com/ in case you don't want to miss a single second of this historic event. And honestly, who wouldn't?
How many people would love to see "noob" be our millionth word, and how many n00bs would be horribly embarrassed?
