According to a study conducted by the Electronic Entertainment Design and Research Group, the best-selling titles on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were not released alongside a playable demo.
Discussed at last week's MI6 game marketing conference, the study suggests that publishers should release only trailers for upcoming titles.
Researchers of the study, Gregory Short and Geoffery Zatkin, concluded that if publishers must release a demo, they should begin producing the demo after the game's release, so as to avoid interruptions with the development of the final product.
Well, this study would certainly be more interesting if the actual games included in it were shown. If the overall tally includes games like Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, then it all makes perfect sense.
