February 13, 2007 - Today Activision announced Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. Previously exclusive to PC, Quake Wars has been wowing fans with crisp visuals since it was first announced back in May of 2005. Instead of teaming with developer Splash Damage, those responsible for the PC version, id Software will be working with Nerve Software for the Xbox 360 version, and Z-Axis for the PS3. Previously, Nerve Software has been responsible for titles like Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War for Xbox and Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil for the PC and Xbox. Z-Axis has put together the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX game series and X-Men: The Official Game.
In the press release, id Software's CEO Todd Hollenshead stated, "We're pleased to be working with Nerve and Z-Axis to bring the highly-anticipated gameplay from Enemy Territory: Quake Wars to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system."
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars pits the Global Defense Force against longtime nemesis from the Quake series, the Strogg. It's a multiplayer focused shooter that emphasizes teamwork to complete objectives across a variety of game modes, and will support up to 16 players per server on consoles. The two factions will give players access to a number of weapons, including exotic tools such as jetpacks, personal teleporters and remote controlled hover robots. Vehicles and turrets will be available as well, along with a system that gives players rank ups and better means to succeed as they accumulate more experience on the battlefield.
Though the press release did not make it explicitly clear, it seems the console versions may be finished some time in 2007. We'll update with more concrete release information as soon as it's available.
