It seems that dvd decryptor's author (LIGHTNING UK!) has been issued a cease and desist order (or worse) to stop the support, coding and hosting of the best free tool for DVD's. The domain name will be transferred over to "a certain company" by the end of the week (9th June).
"Ok so it has taken a while (almost 2 years), but eventually "a certain company" has decided they don't like what I'm doing (circumventing their protection) and have come at me like a pack of wolves. I've no choice but to cease everything to do with DVD Decrypter. I realize this is going to be one of those "that sucks - fight them!" kinda things, but at the end of the day, it's my life and I'm not about to throw it all away (before it has even really started) attempting to fight a battle I can't possibly win."
Very sad news indeed as this was a great program and i tip my hat to you the creator LIGHTNING UK! for the many hrs. you have must`ve spent on perfecting this software as it works so well. Thanks so much for this wonderful software program.

from the hold-your-breath-if-you're-surprised dept.
the-dark-kangaroo writes "The DVD Decrypter author has announced that he has been served with an order to cease his development of DVD Decrypter. The developer has been forced to hand over all source code and the domain that he was using. It is thought that it could be Sony who have served this notice, as it is rumoured that he broke their new copyright protection within 72 hours of its release."
It is sad news indeed....but I'm sure one can always bring out another program similiar to it...and obviously name it differently...don't even have DVD as the name....something totallly different and don't create your own website just have it open source. Remember this...with technology ...there is always a way! :shades:
I agree with Lucian, I don't think this is the last we see of Lightning UK's work. We may not hear from him or about him but what ever progy becomes the next 'IN' prog I'm willing bet UK will have something to do with it. May not be the best PROG out right away , Obviously can't use the same source code because that would be a dead give a way, but with time I'm sure it will be as good if not better. If I'm just being too optomistic then I guess the #2 prog will be the 'in' prog. so does anyone have any others that come to mind??? I know it's a hard question to answer when you don't need anything else.
