I didn't think that the drives in the PS3 could be hacked. From memory, M$ never signed their DVD Roms, due to being made by Hitachi and Samsung originally [and now Benq and LiteOn].
Over time though I guess things change. Never would have thought that using a USB device would work so easily with the PS3. Still remember everyone saying 'BS' and 'Fake' - and the tense wait afterwards, seeing if it was all true or not.
On a side note, looks like M$ is about to do a new media format change. Major Nelson [an Xbox rep / marketing guru] has asked for people in the US to test a new format for the console. They get a free copy of 'Halo : Reach'.
Not sure what it's going to be though, probably just a new way of managing data on the discs. [also note that the entry for this has closed for anyone with a 360 and wanting to try it].
Do 360 DVDs scratch like regular DVDs or do they have some sort of protective coating? From all the scratching I've heard about 360 DVDs I'll assume not. If I had a 360 I wouldn't use my original discs, yes?

Protection measures for slim:
Realtime checks of drive firmware and ram by dashboard - Rootkit technology used to pass several realtime check types. These checks on the drive are open ended so as to make replay of the answers impossible. Will pass any check on any part of the drive
Hardware flash modification check - The 1335 chip performs a hardware check on powerup for modified firmware. Chip fooled into thinking firmware is stock
Slim drive locked to read pressed game discs only - Enabled reading of DVD+R DL media for game discs
All features of current LT+ 1.9 also included
CFW's based on latest Dash updates OFW's
Supports booting AP25 backups and XGD3 originals.
Optimised Timings

New in this release:
New random AP26 challenges defeated. Due to the new AP26 random challenges the safety freeze for unknown or bad AP25 data is no longer supported. Please ensure your AP25 data is correct for the dashboard version you are using.
No need to reburn current AP25 backups from dashboard 13146
JungleFlasher v0.1.86 (267) is a GUI based all-in-one flash tool for iXtreme firmwares. Includes documentation. New in this release:
Support for LT Plus 1.91 - Lite-on Slim 0272, 0225, 0225u, 0401 - Lite-on Phat 02510C - Benq 04421C -Hitachi 78/79
Bug fix for non USB MTK routines: Read, Write, Phatkey etc.
Support for Sputnik/Russian MXIC unlock methods.
Important note that bears repeating about iXtreme LT+ v1.91 (and this probably applies to any subsequent firmware as long as additional random AP25 challenges nicknamed "AP26" are being used):
"Due to the new AP26 random challenges the safety freeze for unknown or bad AP25 data is no longer supported. Please ensure your AP25 data is correct for the dashboard version you are using."
This means that (for consoles which do AP25 checks see the AP25 FAQ for info): forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=728912
AP25 backups (see the list of AP25 games: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?...F9JSWs3VmhBNXc) that are not patched with AP25 replay data will fail the normal AP25 challenges outright. (The normal AP25 challenges from the DAE table are still being performed along with the new random "AP26" challenges.)
AP25 backups that are patched with old/incomplete/bogus AP25 replay data will fail the normal AP25 challenges outright.
AP25 backups that are patched with current AP25 replay data will fail the normal AP25 challenges outright when the DAE table is updated again. So far the DAE table has only been updated through system (dashboard) updates but it could possibly be updated by other means.
Any of these failures will probably flag your console for a ban in the next banwave.
Here are some updates from C4E and others today, including iXtreme LT+ v2.0 and 0800 v3 and JungleFlasher v0.1.88 beta (280) below.
Xbox Backup Creator v2.9 Build 0345 - supports the ripping of Xbox Game Disc 3 (XGD3) games and AP25. Burning of XGD3 is not supported in this build.

They are 2 different systems with 2 completely different hardware architectures and methods of playing backups, so one needs to take that into account also
