[QuadForce]

This isn't hot off the press or anything, but it's a cool and very useful extension. For those of you using http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ download and install these two extensions.

Greasemonkey -> http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/

direct download-> http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/extensions/greasemonkey/greasemonkey-0.3.3-fx.xpi

Platypus -> http://platypus.mozdev.org/

Direct download-> http://downloads.mozdev.org/platypus/platypus.0.4.xpi

After both extensions are installed restart firefox. Now lets head over to a site we visit frequently such as www.ps3news.com

Right click anywhere on the screen and select platypus! Now you will notice that if you mouseover any part of the site that there will be a pink box around it.. mouseover an ad and press delete on the keyboard... do this until you have the site the way you want to see it. Now press Ctrl +s. a new window will appear with the script code. go to tools-> instal user script, press ok and you're done... reload the webpage and it will be just the way you want it

The one thing that isn't good about this, is that website such as PS3News use the ads as their way of paying for hosting to keep the site free to users. But if users are going to be modifing the pages and removing the codes, the site owners will either be forced to charge the users or shut the site down.

Very true Jon... I pay $220.00 every month out of my own pocket for the server, then a yearly renewal fee for the vB license, domain renewal, etc. Although I'll leave the post as it can be handy for some sites, without our visitors supporting us by clicking on a few banners things would only decline by us being forced to add click-thru links, ads integrated into each Forum thread between posts, pop-ups/pop-unders, and other VERY annoying things in my opinion. Several of the STAFF spend a considerable amount of time each day here helping others, posting news updates, and of course helping those behind the scene with related projects... since we got rid of the "donation" button (hardly anyone donated) the sponsor ads are indeed a necessity to keep content fresh and the site rolling on all cylinders here.

Nevertheless, nice trick for FireFox users... ironic it's his first post with us though. :-oops:

i try to click on every single banner on the front page when i visit. how many times a day / week can i click on the banners and let them count as a hit from your site?

Thanks! For those interested, mainly the Google ads are click-based (ie they generate a few cents per click every 24 hours) whereas the others are not. It's nice to see people supporting us though! I left ya some positive Rep points too HEHE
