Best PS2 Version discussion

Hey guys. I remember I saw a thread here that mentioned what the best ps2 versions were for modding and avoiding laser burn-out. I am looking into buying a ps2 console and the DMS4 EZI Lite to install myself. So, before I do, I wanted to know what I should do. Thanks.

The V4-6 were the best. High quality lasers and no double check protection. They also can use the old gameshark disks too. If your going with a no-solder mod or a flip-top and swap magic disks, those are the best. They are increasingly rare though. With a real mod chip, I don't think there is any difference between V4-9.

The laser burnout issue is with the slimline PStwo, all other versions should be fine.

I have a V4 and I've never had any problems with it, I also don't have a mod chip in it either. I use soft modd/swap magic initially.

yea i know the slimlines are the worst for burnout but I also heard that some version of the regular ps2 were also somewhat prone?

also, you say a "real mod", considering this is no-swap and direct boot, wouldn't it be pretty real aside from it being a no-solder mod?

I vote for v7. I've been using mine since the v7 hit retail and my laser reads everything I can throw at it. Also the last version with firewire...

yes,the v7 is for me the best too...i have no trouble with this version and that since 4 years!

Yes my modded v7 ps2 for me has worked awesome,and it has loaded 99% of backups since i got it and very few originals have been played in this console and the laser is still going strong after playing a great amount of backups.

I have a V9 and it's been running fine since I bought it but if you guys say it's very prone to laser burn out then whats the Romeo fix for it ?
