February 13, 2007 - The NPD Group is set to release sales data for January 2007 this Thursday, and Lazard Capital Markets' analyst Colin Sebastian expects the data to show a 25-30 percent rise in game sales over the same period last year.
According to http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=12755, Sebastian said: "On a year-over-year basis, our 'back-of-the-envelope' directional forecast suggests software sales could be up in the 25%- 30% range — a solid start to the new year — driven by incremental sales of next-generation software (Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3), ongoing Sony PS2 and Nintendo DS game sales, and an extra week in 2007 data."
Sebastian expects the January releases of Wario Ware, Lost Planet, and NCAA March Madness to be the month's best-selling titles, along with strong sales of The Legend of Zelda, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007, Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Rainbow Six Vegas.
