293w ago - The game has been a long time in coming since it was announced prior to the Wii's launch at E3 2006. In fact, when the hammer fell on Project H.A.M.M.E.R., some feared the worst for what some consider to be an endangered species these days: A new IP from Nintendo (with Monolith Soft, of course).
But every now and then, something drops to let us know that the game is still alive, and this time, it's a glimpse at the title from Famitsu, who reports that the game is due in the Land of the Rising Sun come July, when the sun is at its rising-est, and for the US and Europe? Just "2008." Gee, thanks. Maybe it'll be here in time to get swept up in the holiday frenzy.
Details are that you still play as Ray, who lost his friend and co-worker Steve about a year ago, and the story centers on Ray finding Steve's sister, Lisa, who has been kidnapped. This effort is complicated by a series of natural disasters striking, such as hurricanes, volcanoes, and tsunamis. Oh, and there's also a terrorist plot to set off a nuclear bomb. Perfect timing.
Gameplay works in a traditional manner-- well, as traditional as the Wii gets without plugging in a GameCube or Classic controller-- by using the Nunchuk's analog stick to move around, while the Wii Remote pointer aims whatever weapon you've got ol' Ray equipped with, and you'll of course fire with the B trigger. Another aspect of the game sees Ray stopping to help those injured by the game's titular disasters. One scenario even depicts Ray trying to escape from a tsunami in a car, which is controlled by the player holding the Wii Remote horizontally.
Not much else to add at the moment, suffice to say that we hope we'll hear more about this one closer to its US release.
