Poisonhzkj has issued a minor maintenance update to CXMB. Version 3.2.1 fixes a bug that caused the plug-in to crash at times when applying a new XMB theme.
Additionally, the issue of theme settings reverting back to default after exiting from a UMD title has been solved.
On a side note, the author mentioned that a 4.01 M33 compatible version of HostCore, which allows users to access media content and files on their PC from the PSP, is due out soon.
An unfinished “preview” build of the upcoming release was provided for testing purposes. While not all features are working properly yet, the preview release does support network video playback.
Changes in 3.2.1:
-Fix bug (freeze while applying theme)
-Fix bug (restore t... More »
Dark_AleX has issued an update to the 4.01 M33-compatible plug-in, fixing numerous bugs along with adding support for UMD disc titles. Additionally, savestates can now be created on a per-game basis.
Keep in mind that PSPStates is compatible only with Slim units currently, due to increased memory usage.
* Fixed important bug in inter-thread code (semaphore wasn’t waiting due to interrupts disabled), that caused the load state to not be completely read in some cases. This caused black screen after state load (unless you just saved that state, in this case state was still in ram), or even worse, game not working properly due to partial load.
* Added states per game basis. The controls are slightly different: old controls now do a local savestate/loadstate of the game, while pressing additiona... More »
Poisonhzkj has returned with an official update to the theme-changing plug-in, adding full support for 4.01 M33 series custom firmware. And that’s not all, this version of CXMB is cross-compatible with earlier CFW revisions, including 3.71, 3.80, and 3.90 M33.
The author notes that users who built themes for the unofficial build will either need to re-package their CTF file or hex edit it at the offset 0×10, replacing DEAD0400 with DEAD0401.
Included in the archive below is both the “full” and “lite” edition of CXMB. If you are simply using CTF format themes created by others, it is recommended to install the latter.
1. Add 4.01 capability.
2. Select the random.ctf, then cxmb will randomly apply your themes in /PSP/THEME/
3. Compile universal binary, cxmb.pr... More »
Dark_AleX has released a new Custom Firmware Plug-In that allows users to save/load savestates of their current progress on PSP titles. Dubbed PSPStates, the plug-in is still in the experimental stage and currently is only compatible with Slim units, due to the increased memory usage.
It is advised to disable any other plug-ins while using PSPStates, as well as backup all data on your memory stick in case of data loss. Additionally, the plug-in is written specifically for 4.01 M33. Savestates created likely will not be interoperable with future Custom Firmware releases.
As a final note, it is highly stressed that you do not use the plug-in with a UMD inserted. Use of the ISO driver March33, which can be selected in the XMB by pressing Select, is recommended.
Mediumgauge has released an maintenance update to PSP Filer, a file management application for PSP. By using PSP Filer, users can easily edit, copy, delete, and transfer files on the memory stick and flash memory.
In addition to a couple bug fixes and tweaks, version 5.2 adds 4.01 M33 compatibility, allowing users to sort and re-order applications located in the GAME4XX folder.
filer:
* added “GAME4XX” folder to re-order game icons. (added “GAMEnaa” folder : n=0-9, a=0-9/a-z/A-Z)
picture viewer:
* changed circle button’s function to toggle “make a picture to fit screen width” and “to fit screen height”.
binary editor:
* fixed a bug that a help screen was vanished when Filer finishes to read a large file.
Uberjack has released a minor update to fMSX, an MSX series emulator for the PSP designed to run both MSX and MSX2 cartridge files.
In addition to several game-specific bug fixes, version 3.5.35 adds the ability to map any button to the emulator’s fast forward function. Additionally, for developers, custom mapper types can now be directly embedded in source code.
* Bugfix - many games, especially MegaROM games did not load correctly in the previous version (thanks Victor)
* Added Fast Forward button mapping - while disabled by default, you can map any button to fast-forward emulation in the Controls menu
* Custom mapper types can now be embedded in source code. This version includes built-in support for Zanac Ex and Mon Mon Monster. Contact me if you’d like to add additional mappings.
Miriam has updated the popular CXMB plug-in, originally written by Poisonhzkj, with full support for the recently released 4.01 M33 Custom Firmware.
For those interested, CXMB allows users to safely load non-PTF custom made XMB themes from memory stick, rather than by replacing files on the PSP’s flash memory.
Panajev2001a posted on NeoGAF (linked above) that Sony was recently granted a patent for what many think could be the next PSP or PSP phone. The patent is for a 'hand-held device with touchscreen and digital tactile pixels'.
The patent application states that the device could be used as a "game device, phone, portable media player, email device, Web browser device or navigation device."
Another patent was granted for a "data-transfer using hand-held device." The device would be able to "recognize a remot... More »
Dark_AleX has issued an update to PSP Custom Firmware 4.01 M33, fixing a couple minor bugs regarding the built-in NID resolver and recovery mode. The complete changelog for 4.01 M33-2 can be found below.
Additionally, as expected the 1.5 kernel add-on for regular (fat) PSP units running 4.01 M33 series Firmware has been released. Installing this is optional, but it will give you full compatibility with older homebrew titles that were written specifically for Firmware 1.5.
Dark_AleX has released PSP Custom Firmware 4.01 M33 today. In addition to minor bug fixes, this edition brings 4.01 kernel support, complete with multi-language support for Recovery Mode.
Instructions can be found in the included readme on how to translate the recovery text to your native language. And no, this release does not include in-XMB recovery or savestate support... those enhancements are still planned, but will likely be added in a future update.
As usual, the Firmware Update can be applied directly via Network Update if you are running a previous release from 3.80 M33 and onward, or by following the manual installation instructions below, provided that you have a homebrew capable PSP.
* Extract the archive.
* Copy included UPDATE folder to X:/PSP/GAME
* Place the official firmware 4.01 update EBOOT, ... More »
