Well, it's less than a day after Sony's PS3 Firmware 3.0 update has been released and already there appears to be numerous reports of some PS3 games freezing post-update.

According to Examiner.com (linked above), at least three PS3 titles thus far seem to be adversely affected.

To quote: "One of the biggest games being inflicted by this freezing bug is Uncharted. Numerous forum goers on GameFaqs are complaining about the freezing issue. There have also been a few reports of the UFC and Bioshock getting similar symptoms.

Whether this is just limited to Uncharted isn’t known, but it could very well cause some minor problems to other titles, too. Let's hope Sony finds a cure for this minor inconvenience soon."

A few others are reporting that NFS: Undercover now freezes when playing online and COD4 froze when in a lobby.

That being said, if anyone here has experienced any PS3 game freezing issues since updating to PS3 Firmware 3.0 feel free to reply in the comments below!

Phew, I thought something was wrong with my hardware when I tried to play Uncharted's 'Heading Upriver' chapter for like 15 times. I hope Sony will release a fix soon.

Battlefield 1943 froze a few times on 3.0 =\

hopefully, 3.05 or whatever will fix that, and edit the friends list so those I HATE 3.0 idiots will STFU.

I think your Dual shock 3 problem is a hardware problem, I have 2 PS3's with total of 4 Dual shock 3 controllers both are at 3.00, and they all connect with out an issue.

Had to re-unlock.

i didnt have much time to spend on other things and games on my console yesterday but i definetly can say that on my 60gig ps3 (that old one with 4 usb and the other things...) HOME crashed a few times (especialy on loading new rooms) and i had to hard reset console. Also i can confirm that it hangs on loading multiplayer mode in Marvel vs Capcom 2 (and sometimes navigation in menu is a bit laggy - wierd).

Funny thing with that Wipeout - must check it out when i came back from work ...

Now we have to wait for official respone from Sony. Maybe it will be a quick patch or update so we can enjoy our system with no more problems.

Cheers everybody...

I didn't notice any freezes on my 80 Gb PAL console, I played Killzone 2, GTA IV, Bioshock without any problems. GTA IV maybe ran smoother than before... if I notice anything I will post the game and section where the freezing occured for me.

Apparently 3rd party controllers (fakes) don't work anymore.

At least mine doesn't anymore and other customers who bought it on the site start complaining.

that's true actually, though never playing fifa 09, i been playing GTA IV and kz2 lately and both games seem to load significantly faster than before 3.0. i have not seen a huge performance increase, but it seems in GTA that there are less stutters that i have been getting occasionally while playing.

lol

I never thought I live to see this kind of error on a PS3 . I mean, all the "symptoms" you have are expected in all kinda programs, OS, and anything else which doesn't presume to be very well designed :D ... but, guess what, Sony's programmers are just as human as all of us X_X.

The funny thing here, is that they claim that this is the last big update of the year, which I though would be flawless. Anyway, now we just have to wait until the "Last Big Update v2" to come or something else that fixes all these problems once and for all ... unless they were supposed to happen :shhh: (I say that 'cause of the "3rd Party" controllers; it's just to much of a coincidence :investigate:)

Dx i didnt play none of my games yesterday..

i was too amazed by the update to see it, are they gonna release another one soon to fix this problem.. like a 3.10 maybe?

By JeffJ on 12 weeks ago:
Well, last Major update is true, a minor fix here and there is bound to come out. we all know it its sony. I looks like it will be sooner then later. im going to try my games tonight and see. after i beat my blueray remote into submission.

at any rate, complaining to the sites that sold you third party controllers is a ridiculous suggestion. The issue with them would be Sony's not there issue. As a side note, I don't remember reading any where that Sony would guarantee that third party hardware would be supported. not only that, I remember back in the day when if you called Sony for service/repairs, if you advised them that you used third party peripherals or memory units they would inform you this voids your service warranty. At any rate there could be legitimate reasoning for this issue with the third party hardware, it could just be a "oops, sorry" mistake, or maybe the 3.0 was coded on a Monday and the programmers were feeling like dicks that day. who knows.

and at the end of this all i got to say is my G25 Wheel better still work, or you'll hear about me on the news.

well i dont have any good news for you ... mine blu ray stopped reading discs at some time (about couple of months after purchase) and there is no real method to fix it by yourself (in my case none of clening discs or other stuff worked ). I had to send it back to my shop and they send it to Belgium i suppose which is the nearest country (for me - im from poland) which has official ps3 feedback for hardware issues.

So it took about a month and they send back to me a whole new ps3. But beware - if u send them a 60gig (or other version) with support for playing ps2 games its most likely that they dont send u back the same model. As for some time they actually send back newer models (maybe with some free bundle or games) - i get the same model but it was almost 2 years ago ... so if u own such a model i think better sollution to keep it (and fix it) could be purchase of a laser itself (dealextreme.com have them for example) and get a proper person to install it for you.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions but i think thats all .... cheers mate and good luck!

all of my games freeze, this is BS. would it be possible to rollback to an old firmware version until they get a fix for the new one?

unfortunately no ... at this time the only possible method of downgrade is by Infectus (its a modchip) but even that is still in developement ... maybe you can try to hard reset console couple of times, give it a rest, unplug and plug in back the hard drive. Maybe that helps... You can also write directly to sony support. They actually reply within couple of hours (24 hours is the max time to get the respone from them). Good luck.

This doesn't surprise me. I think it should be expected that newer updates should have bugs that cause these errors, but the new features it has makes it so tempting to update. I just hope there will be a solution available soon.

ive had my slim for a few days now, and played skate 2 for hours with no freezes....i also left it on all night downloading some demos....never a hiccup in the process.

i did notice, however, that when the multi audio out is enabled, the load screen audio for the ufc demo's stutters....

Not entirely sure it's to do with firmware 3.00 but the last few days playing Fallout 3 has been a pain in the ass. Slowdowns and freezes were abundant, sometimes when I thought it had frozen, the game would eventually continue, and sometimes I got sick of waiting and restarted console.

If it is related it's definitely annoying but hopefully it'll be rectified soon enough.

I'm glad it's not just me. I'm a new PS3 owner traded in my 360 (5th one) for a slim and was looking forward to playing Uncharted it just freezes about 15 min into session. Hope they fix this soon, I heard this is a great game. Guess resistance 2 will have to do for now.

Well, good luck because this update bug has affected Resistance 2 for me also.

My launch model 60gb locked up twice during online gameplay of the new nazi zombies level on cod: world at war after getting 3.0. It may just be a software crash from the game, but it froze the whole console, no xmb access and I also hadn't experienced such a freeze in the past. Werd.

wouldn't you guys say this would be the best firmware to explore for exploits since it has so many bugs already with games?

Sony has start working on this problems when the firmware was release, so don't worry, in no time this problems will just be a thing of the past.

I have yet to find any of my disk games running into problems and I have a launch 60gig. But a couple of my DLed games, such as Galactrix has a tendancy to freeze now and then and I have to do a hard shutdown, kinda pisses me off.
