PS3 System Software Update 3.15 Introduces PSP Minis & More!

AHA!!! so this is the psp emulator, pretty cool, i wanted to play the psp minis but i didnt want to shell out the money for another psp. I like the feature of transferring data, although we can already transfer the game saves.

The psp-minis sounds awesome, but I don't understand why you would have two working Ps3 units for the second part of the article. I guess if the first one's laser broke and someone didn't want to use the internet?

I think they should give a parallel gaming machine option-If one ps3 running a game is awesome, two ps3's running the same game to process volumetric pixels, virtual texturing, or do away with most load time in some games would be awesomer....

If this is in fact a psp emulator, do you think we'll be seeing the ability to play full commercial psp games in the future?

It would be great if SONY devs created the PS3 software PS2 emulator that everyone has also been rumouring and talking about. The PS Store can then start selling PS2 games as well, to follow the footsteps of that XBOX 360 service, which allows you to download old XBOX classics. Imagine what a system seller it would be, with all the PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 games our PS3's could run and easily purchase from PS Store. I think its highly likely this service will be continued and pursued by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo for their next generations, as a way to generate revenue from older software and expand gamers' choices...

It is interesting that Sony allows this kind of transfer. I am sure that opens up quite a lot of avenues for hacking the machine. Would this operation of transferring the files to another PS3 cause the PS3 from which all the data is coming from to be redundant? What will I do with a large black paperweight? would it be possible to transfer more than once and have a lot of PS3 loading the data - piracy comes to mind.

Very well, now they only have to put in the box a function to have it could display a "I will break-down in 4 days, please consider to replace me in time" message....

Ok, no joking the PS3 file transfer facility could be usefull the same, but... mostly one can think to replace the monolith only if it breaks itself...

I really hope this fw could solve the startup issue we have here in Europe, after 3.10 many ones (really many) are stuck with console that refuses to wake up by pushing the PS button...and some other (and not sleepingstanding ones) had also some network related issue...

You cannot turn upsidown the world with 256MB of RAM, by my side I'd rather not have many kernel-fatner gizmoes but PERFORMANCE (games and BD) and RELIABILITY.

Since 2.80 this one seems will be the more useful update however, for now I've a tray full of new games but no wish to jump to 3.00 or above, hoping soon they will release a decent firmware but my secret wishes to not have RAM killer code onto HDD will go to F-itself cause they probably will never remove or leave the option to remove that which for someone is JUNK.

Finally it could have been a better thing simply to add the option for backing-up everithing to the old backup options, to keep everithing in a safe warm place just in case the old PS3 should say goodbye without warning, obviously thinking at a safe way to preserve their interest for copyrighted-downloaded content as well.

The data transfer is huge for me. I've been wanting to get a larger hard drive but had no way of transfering my data. Instead of buying a new system I wonder if I could insert my new hard drive into a friends system and tranfer the data then put the new one in to my own and activate it. Then my friend could do the same. Now if that works then this is awesome.

Also I think since sony is still making money off of the ps2 in hardware sales I think they may hold off on the ps2 emulator for a while untill they truly need it. But then again why would sony be releasing a system to system hard drive transfer unless they had good reason for the extra space one might need. Hint, hint ps2 emulator, fingers crossed.

As far as i'm aware, a new HDD is formatted upon being inserted into the ps3 and is (for lack of a better word) "registered" to THAT ps3.
So if you did as you said and put your new bigger HDD in your mates ps3 and transfered all your files then tried to take that HDD and put it in your system, you would have to re-format the HDD so its "registered" with your system, and basically whatever info you transfered to it would b lost - a redundant idea.

You could however put the new HDD in your friends system, transfer your save to it and vice versa, then convince your friend to just swap ps3's with you?? lol

someone correct me if i've got that wrong though

File transfer sounds interesting, shame you *currently* need two ps3's to do it though - might have to hook mine up to my PC and have a look at what the PS3 is transmitting

Plus, wouldn't be suprised if the 3.15 addresses the issue with 3.10 startup controller issues - but they're hardly lkely to admit it was their fault so don't expect this to be listed in the official change log!

Correct, at least from what I've heard as well. PS3 Firmware 3.15 is supposed to include the ability to transfer data between to PS3s via an ethernet cable, support for playing PSP Minis on the PS3 and a fix for DualShock 3 pairing issues.

I guess we'll see soon enough, hopefully later tonight.. although it's not officially supposed to be released until tomorrow (the 10th).

There are hardware devices that could accomplish this task easily, at the end it's a network transmission... not so difficult to sniff ...

But they speak about activate the system, maybe they've set up some kind of protection to prevent at least the online use of two cloned systems cuz internal cypher keys are console sensitive... but for non online use for sure it could work...IF they haven't set up some kind of bond between the local account and the P$N one, for example, to force the whole system to be activated online... but I don't believe it, they are $ony at the end, not micro$oft...

I have to guess that for "full system backup" you mean a 1:1 copy of the drive right ? Well this could be a good way to undercover if in the whole process some data is stored onto the NAND as well, I mean if there is some kind of file-map or whatelse aside the Magic-Gate key onto the system flash.

Let we take a larger picture... it could be only partially useful...

...at least if you mind to use it in a connected (well, two connected) environment. Have you readen the full EULA of P$N lately (4.20) ?

Do you know that they checks savegames as well as everything else when you're connected ?

And they can lock your system (read --> PS3) only for breaking a single statement of the LA ?

And....well, if you didn't then give yourself a break and go read it, your hairs could whitens if not drop.

I'm not so sure it could be a so good idea, the EULA you've agreed is a blood signed one, and the blood is your of course.

Be careful if you try the trick to not go online at least, this is my hint, furthermore lately is becoming fashion to lock down rake systems, my fear (well not big fear for me in fact cause I will never agree their halter EULA, my privacy is priceless ) is that they could start emulating M$ one day or another.
