We have waited a while to see the redesigned Slim PS3, and its hardware - to be honest, its not that "slim" compared to previous versions. Thanks to joinmeindeath417 of TechPowerUp (linked above), we get to take a look!

Compared to the later motherboard revisions of the PS3 Motherboard, it is somewhat in line - the "additions" come with a smaller cooler, smaller PSU, and slimmer BD-Rom drive, as well as a slightly redesigned motherboard (not too much however).

But, compared to the CECHA it's a big difference, but compared to the later model motherboards (CECHL and on), it is mostly the same.

The only differences are more integrated components, less power supply "bits" spread about the board, but nevertheless - mostly the same.

LOL, well never mind. I see the Boss is on top it, lol  The system looks pretty easy to break down. Not so complex as one might think I guess.

Nothing majorly interesting its more or less the same as the original only smaller, I wonder if it will fall victim to overheating problems due to limited airflow.

For some reason I think the airflow will be about the same as the fat. Should be if the vents arent half blocked like the ones in the fat are; looking through the vents on my old ps3 with a flash light i can see that a good bit of inflow is blocked by the ps3 internals.

Does anyone know if it has universal power unit? Just ordered a US unit but I live in Europe so it would be good to know.

Like I thought earlier + the press release - I don't think its a universal power supply. Not 100% sure on this, but I'd read the manual for proper power voltages first!

Is there any news about the optic lens inside the BD drive? Is it like the fat type or may be they got a new type in there?

I wonder how it is look like inside the BD drive on this new series

It's a new one, think smaller but same speed.

Just hope it is not too complicated in the BD drive. By seeing the motherboad i still Questioning the over head problem will be solve even they design it in to less power usage.

The power supply it self was similar with PSX power. If it is not an auto-volt type then we gonna see a lot of blow up power

whats the big difference with the slim? I know its cheaper...

#14
By CJPC on 12 weeks ago:
Cheaper, things are smaller, PSU is not switching anymore, 45NM cell, runs cooler - there are more things, but those are the big few!
