Great, now let's see what's new with this FW.
Thanks for the update.
Thanks for the update.
No problem... for those unaware, the last update (2.80) still showed 2.76 on the updater so that is why it wasn't initially a mandatory update.
Sadly, this one is required to go online with the PS3, PSN, Home, etc:
If someone who updates their non-Slim PS3 with it can check if the new Bootscreen is now in it that would be appreciated. :tup3:

That "PS3" logo startup is on 3.00 regardless if you have a slim or phat ps3 :D
verified phat ps3s use new "PS3" logo as on slims

Confirmed LIVE, downloading now, thanks.
Thanks for the confirmation 51N15T3R and +Rep! :tup4:
lol. this is so lame, i was looking forward to this update so much but not i am wondering if their could be a hack for the old firmware at some point. Meh... I'll just update it. :p
i like the tweaks a LOT =3 cant wait for some dynamic themes!
Hrmm... why would people not use the System Update software to update the bios?
Is there some sort of advantage or patching that I should be aware of before I download and apply this new bios?

can anyone please iterate on the "Custom Remote Play Settings - Manually set a device (such as a PSP system) to be used for remote play" item? how has it changed, what new options do you get?
The main reasons I can think of is they may not have their PS3 hooked up to the Internet or they simply feel safer doing it themselves "offline"... personal preference really. ;)2

1, Sometimes downloading firmware updates via PSN can be really slow and can't use the system while it downloads.
2, Downloading on PC, you can use a multi-threaded downloader like FDM and download at a fast speed.
3, Archiving the PS3 Firmware packages - can't do this if you download on PS3!
I have tried to check if there is any feature worth getting excited about and I think there are some nice gimmicks but of which I am remotely interested. I am hoping per chance the browser will be faster or have improved navigation and also have the ability to play flash videos directly outside the browser. Then I will notice some difference.
For those who are in Europe or America there are some services that have become available; here in South Africa and I think in Australia our wait for the playTV if ever it will come has been forever and even some of these services such as Vidzone may never get to our shores!

Shame they couldn't include the Bravia Sync feature in the firmware for the fat PS3 :( would have loved that with my new 46inch Bravia panel!
damn them - i might have to actually sell my original 60gb and get a slim.
(Then again, i'm not THAT bothered!)

updated to 3.01 just recently as it seems they improved media playback from within the browser.
prior to 3.01 you could only fast forward up to x20 or x30 and the scene selection was disabled.
pls someone with 3.00 or less try scene selection on a vid opened in the browser (not downloaded).
it's not some killer feature, but since I use my local webserver rather then a media server it comes in quite handy.
