Inspired by PSPSwampy, I made an alternate version, which does not require .NET or any additional libraries. It is a very straight forward which will read the update list url, and parse it for the update.

It will download any update if possible if the versions do not match. The downloaded file will have the ps3 version number attached to the name (ie 2.6000_PS3UPDAT.PUP).

Once an update is found/downloaded it will stop checking. If the url is bad or any errors I could think of occur, it will stop checking.

How ironic, a few days back we could have used 1 of these to grab the 2.7 FW Update, and now we have 2 available to use. :p

Nice job on coding the non-.Net version Tsusai and +Rep! :tup3:

it looks simplier to use that PSPSwampy; but hard to tell if its actually doing anything - and the To Tray button doesnt work :-S but none the less its good that the team here at PS3 News is working to help out with tools like this.

I was thinking about the same thing - but anyway since two other people have done this already i'll hold off :P (i'm a .Net developer by trade)

Does this mean we can use this version on our Linux boxes (since .NET isn't being used), or does it still require Windows to run smoothly?

you could probably use this version if you run it through WINE - as this is still an EXE it won't run natively on linux.

My Ubuntu/Lazarus is being a royal pain in the butt at the moment, so the linux compile (if possible) has been put off for another day. WINE should be just fine for now. I should have a linux compile w/o tray code (because I don't know how to code that specifically).

It is great to have a second version of this application, I will try the newest version of each out and see which I like better. This is a wonderful type of app and is the reason that I found this great website.
