im not shocked to hear this, but i am disapointed =[ i hope we at least get messengers so i can multi task XD
Also, I think a PS3 Ad-Hoc play should be integrated into the architecture.
It'd be great for next-door neighbors that would like to play multiplayer on a game if their next door, or they bring their system over.
PSP Has it.
DS Has it (sucks though, sorry. heh).
Future PSP Firmware should also be allowed to load the friends list and chat with friends.
I've started getting into PPC ASM, so future TIFF exploits will be possible (possibly).

Good points though.

Perhaps games could come with an with an optional install for a "disc-less multiplayer mode"?
The three most exciting features in that list (for me) would be the homebrew widgets, enabling personalised feeds (rss maybe??) and features; the open file transfer system, it could be a new means to save file transfers and other media on the user's hdd :)
and the xmb music system - listen to music from the hdd while using the browser! i would like someone to explain the reason behind not being able to keep a track playing while performing another task (such as web browsing or testing the internet connection or woteva you wana do)
something else caught my attention too - a system hosting a service if traffic is an issue to allow video/audio streaming over a network
just seems like such an interesting idea :)

The ps3 has 8 spes? one for the OS and another used for drm? Leaving only 6 for games? Would be great if they would release 1 spe more for games to be even better.
Most of those points are good ones, theres a lot of un-tapped ideas the XMB could be using. The in-game invites one isn't really valid tho, its a game specific thing, it's up to the developers to utilize that function.
I'd like to see more integration with psp, like an AVC video encoder on the XMB for compressing the videos that are on the ps3 to make them compatible with psp.
An audio converter, you can rip from a CD to mp3, aac or atrac, why not offer those conversion features on the XMB for tracks that are already on the XMB.
External audio file playback during video play back, being able to use one of the audio files during video play back, usefull when you have multiple languages for the video, or if you have a directors coments version
Those are all ideas that present no risk to sony in terms of security, they are already implemented in some way or another (like the audio conversion)
I think sony should also get rid of the auto pause of video when you use the XMB, i watch stuff alot on my ps3, and when i get messages (or use the chat feature) the video pauses. Very anoying, i don't know any one that likes it. Especialy anoying if i have music videos on. An option in the XMB wouldn't hurt any one
Voice chat should be made so that the user can use other system fetures at the same time (such as gaming)
Oh! for gods sake they need to stop turning the music off every time i wana do something, jesus! my mobile phone can play music while i change it's settings, why cant a ps3??
PlayTV, awsome for recording your fave shows, sucks at giving you access to that content. PlayTV can only be accessed while you have the playTV reciever plugged in, if you take ure ps3 to a friends, you cant access the videos in your library unless you take the reciever. Anoying. PlayTV does allow you to transfer your videos to the XMB, only to have the XMB not able to play back the subtitles (it's sonys own hardware, talk about bad intergration) How about having the recorded videos listed in both the playtv library, and the XMB?
Some other ideas i had that are more "funsie" and less "should be" would be, using the PSEye to control the XMB (like that mad movie with tom criuz).
Using the PSEye or other audio input, voice controling the XMB, so like "Friends" - "message box" - "down" - "open" or something, would be cool.
Moving backgrounds, like a gif image, video file, or even a specificly rendered background, like a picture of a waterfall with moving water, moving plants. Or a picture of sky, with moving clouds (i think theres something like that for windows PCs)
Got quite a few ideas in mind but those would be the ones that pop into mind just now

All these proposed features would add great value to the ps3 and some even could be done by users... but... the ps3 is on lock-down.

On the other hand, the BD-J homebrew "hole" got closed, and I still don't understand why they bothered closing that. It's Java with heavy limitations, for crying out loud. Even if a hole were found, they could close it with a firmware update. Ah, well.
No, the Cell in the PS3s has 7 SPEs, with one reserved for the OS. (Technically, it has 8, but in modern production lines many chips are produced with defects. If a Cell has a defect in one of the SPEs, they can disable it, and still put the Cell in a PS3. This can save a lot of money and get better yields.
"XMB Music"
I totally agree with that...
They also need to make it, So that when you play a track, in-game/xmb it doesn't until you click on the option to do it.
[PLAY MUSIC] > XMB > Start GAME > [MUSIC STOPS] > GAME > [PLAY MUSIC] > Exit GAME > [MUSIC STOPS] > :(~

When you play music there should be more visualizations options with at least 10 different visualizations, and how they will react with the music.
and there should be an category in PS Store where you can download more visualizations :D
