OH THANK YOU SWEET JESUS! NO INSTALL! nice to see some devs FINALLY working to make a game work on the console instead of lame ports and huge "cache" files.
yeah i guess they are finally getting smarter. I don't understand what the deal about not making the install optional. Well i guess some games really need it but would be nice if it was optional.
I wish it would be optional but that if you install it, then there is less loadings.
YEAPPP! Right you are my friend.. and should be available in all games for those who are impatient.
It should be available optionally to install whenever you want, lets say most of us get a game and we want to jump in and play right away. When we sit down and start the game the installation plus downloading patches can take up to 40 - 50 minutes which is a total turn down.
I have a friend that was trying to play bioshock and said, I waited 45 minutes to install the game with a 6mb connection, it really blows, I finished installing and turned my ps3 off. Most people dont have 4 hours to play a game so 40 minutes is way to much. If installations are necesary developer should make them optional and whenever we feel we have time to spare install the game properly lets say a week later or a couple of days later.
Another thing thats really out of hand is the size of installations, they go up to 5 GB and most people have the 40gb ps3 so go figure. Installations are big and the bottom line is they will cost you down the road either upgrading hard drives or deleting your content that took you a lot of time to install. Sucks doesnt it?

The Game can not be played unless you update to FW 3.01 but if you haven't upgraded yet, then wait for the upgrade that follows the COD MW2 disc cause that one is safe to use. I upgraded yesterday without any problems.
PS: The game has been leaked in Norway now and I'm one of the lucky bastards who got it before they pulled it from the stores.

I received my copy of MW2 on pre order yesterday and during gameplay I have noticed more than on any other game I play that the bluray drive is constantly reading... So although the game may not take any hard drive space this may come at the cost of battering the bluray drive!!!!
Even though it would take time to install, wouldn't the game run better from HDD?
If by better you mean will it load faster than yes it will, the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 is 2x which in terms of megabytes a second it is about 9MB/s.
this game has already been released in the uk... i have 3 friends on my list who currently play the game =( lucky them lol
thanks god we dont have to install it on the HDD i prefer to sit down and play a game rather than sit down and watch it install =(

The speed is not relevant when your talking about Optical Media, you'll see, there's no need (or capacity) to go faster if you can transfer more data in a single "spin" than other media. This is the case of the BluRay, which speed is about 2X, but, in that speed is capable to transfer up to 72Mbps .... see, that's a lot more than DVD's because at 2X it can transfer 23 Mbps approximately.
It's true, check this out, it's from a good source (no, it's not from wikipedia :D) : http://www.blu-ray.com/faq/
Best Regards!

A couple people are actually playing it in the US as well, I'm not really sure if it's out yet or not. Besides i favor the Unreal Tournament style of play with shooters & always have since dreamcast.

72 Mbps (Megabits Per Second) = 9 MByte/s (Megabytes Per Second).
Yawn.. too easy.
I do not mind a one time install if it means my Blu-ray drive is used less while playing the game.
If there is an install, I just go make a sandwich and then it is done. I really do not understand why people complain about a ONE-TIME install. I mean is it life or death that you play the game right then. After that it never happens again.

I'm not adverse to games installing to the HDD, if it speeds up the experience and saves my Blu-ray from going U/S. The installs in the whole scheme of things don't take a massive amount of time.
Just put it in it the button and sit back with a nice cold beer. Can't believe some peoples luck though - A mix up with the post and the sending company, meant that a mate had his copy of Modern warfare 2 last Friday (6th Nov).

72/8 = 9
i'm just explaining to others and not just agree-ing with what your saying :D
They really should offer the install on the ps3. Not that the ps3 would load slower from bluray than the 360 from dvd but the HDD in the ps3 would provide a definite boost to loading.
LOL at me haha, I didn't see that capital B, but 9 MBps are still a lot my stupid mistake ;), but before this gets off topic, I definitely agree that HDD install should be optional. Does anyone knows if there's such optional install for for the others systems?
one question :D Playing new games would need the PS3 to update to latest fw right?
so when the CoD6-MW2 comes out.. we'd all be force to update the ps3 and screw it up eventually and pay sony to fix it?

i disagree with the post above... sony is doing a great thing with the playstation 3... definitely best console ever! and also... mw2 best game ever =)
Thanks to the OP.
I recently had a nightmare upgrading my HDD as I thought all new games would require installing gamedata. I was unable to successfully backup my original PS3 HDD so gave up after 2 days and decided to start fresh. It was a pain having to reinstall all previous games.
But back to the OP this is great for people who have the Original PS3 and don't wish to upgrade.
