Has CJPC tried changing the files on the hd, like exploiting the png files? Can any of the files be changed on the harddrive? Also bootflag.dat sounds very interesting. Does this file determine what disk plays in what mode?
Could please post the missing directory too? I would like to see what libs are used by the PS3OS.
There are no missing directories, everything I can access is listed there. Furthermore bootflag.dat is a small file, full of 00's. We can change files yes, however "exploiting a png" is not that easy, forgetting the fact that the PS3 is supposedly protected from buffer overflows etc!
Oh yes, you're right. I miss-interpreted the dots.
I looked back at the news and saw the flash filesystem has the interresting files. Can I find a complete file list anywhere or could you post it?

It looks like a *nix, and the (S)ELF stuff almost makes it certain.
Let's hope they have violated GPL, and are forced to publice the source !

i read that the hdd can only be used in the original ps3. it seems that every ps3 creates a specific code for every hdd so your friends hdd cant be read in your ps3. My question is, can this now be changed? I heard of too many horror stories of bricked ps3's with no way to recover the data off the hdd's.
Well waiting for a homebrew file manager that you can use to navigate the filesystem and rename files and move then.
Someone I know is working on such an app...
It allows FTP access to the PS3 HDD too, although no idea if/when he will share it publically yet though.

I assume this FTP application is for retail consoles only? is it a linux application that runs under OtherOS mode or what...
The guy doing it has a Debug PS3 (not CJPC, another Dev) so I know it works on those... not sure about Retail consoles as he didn't go into how it was made, but if he shares more details I will report back.
Edit: I asked him tonight... for Debug PS3 consoles only he said.
