As Blu-ray market penetration increases, the entry price of Blu-ray Disc players will continue to decrease.

China's Economic Daily News reports that white-box vendors will offer Blu-ray players at approximately a $150 USD price point this year.

Lite-On IT, a prominent Taiwanese disc drive manufacturer, plans to offer a half-height Blu-ray drive for laptops for around $150 USD, according to the newspaper.

White-box vendors are obscure electronics manufacturers, so don't expect to see Sony or Samsung Blu-ray players reach that price point just yet.

Lite-on already have a USB Blu-ray Player on the market. Priced at around £80 and it looks a really good.

When I seen it the other day I thought it was a writer and thought that is cheap but then looked properly and seen it was a Player only. Cant wait for Blu-ray Writers to come down in price.

Yep, I actually own a Lite-On DH-401S Blu-ray player... and if I recall correctly it was under $130 when I got it last year. It does read PS3 discs, which is a plus! :D

Here are the two posts on it from last year:
